Recently I started playing the Prince of Tennis Switch game (I’m a huge fan of the series, and I love being able to play a game in Japanese, haha, it’s like a dream come true). I record my sessions so I can repeat what the characters say, translate them live if possible, then rewatch the videos to translate what I didn’t get the first time. There’s one team from Osaka (Shitenhouji) and one from Okinawa (Higa). I’ve always thought that Osaka-ben is very sing-songy and cute, but it’s tough translating the slang sometimes. But Okinawa-ben is even harder. Still, I’ve learned a few words, like あぎじゃびよー which means “oh my god/what the hell” and わったー which means “us/we.” I’m curious if anyone knows of a resource for Osakan and Okinawan words? Jisho doesn’t really have Osakan or Okinawan phrases. I stumbled upon https://hougen.ajima.jp/ which has helped me out a lot for Okinawan, but sometimes I don’t come up with any hits.
And, shameless plug, if anyone’s interested in watching my videos, they’re at https://www.youtube.com/@knightnettie
