That being said, I’m really excited to be doing wanikani consistently again! I tried, and failed, to keep up with reviews during my first year at university, but life got in the way /(--)_
After reading some community posts here and having my motivation restored I’m finally moving forward with goals in mind! I read @jprspereira 's lvl 60 post (congrats btw) and that really helped me out. Now I have a few neat scripts, and the goal of (hopefully) being around lvl 30 by February. My plan is to study up on grammar using bunpro so that I might be somewhere around N3 by the time I hit those lvl30’s and can finally start consuming some actual japanese media! That isn’t to say that I won’t be trying to do exactly that along the way, but for me it feels like a natural milestone.
Here’s some stats so that I can look back at this post once I meet my goals!
Great post–keep at it. I’m about to finish Level 10. My first five levels were getting consistently longer, but then I added the “Self Study” app, so that I could study Apprentice items in between reviews. Then for levels 6 through 9, I almost burned out because I was just constantly trying to go as fast as I could to level up. For Level 10, I pulled back and didn’t worry about jumping on the next batch of reviews at 11 PM and just waited until morning. I eased off the accelerator a little and now I feel refreshed (but you can see that my Level 10 is above my median time). Just saying if you feel like it’s too much, pull back a little. This isn’t a race.
I wouldn’t worry overly about procrastination, so long as you can get back on track, hehe. I took a long break, reset, then ended up taking another 2/3 year break after level 10 and then got back into it again. I’ve been on 13 for a while, but that’s because I’m trying to clear vocab lessons
Don’t worry about the fact that you procrastinated on WK until now. If you think of yourself as a procrastinator, you’ll have the tendency to procrastinate. Give yourself the opportunity to start fresh and focus on consistency You seem pretty smart, so consistency alone will take you to a great place already.
Thanks for all the encouraging words everyone! By the way, where are you guys getting that stat window that shows your level up times per level? I found one on a wkstats website, but the ones you are all using look better in these posts…
You use the older version of the site. It will stop working on September 1st when API V1 will be retired. The new version is here. You will need to provide an API V2 key.
The stats you look for are in the Level-up submenu.
“Slow and steady wins the race.” Thanks for sharing. I think the hard part sometimes is one foot in front of the other. If we do that, we’ll get there.
