FYI I have asked the question here in the forum and on askubuntu.
So far I have learned that “my” version of 直 is the Chinese character. It seems to be a problem with settings of the browser or the system, because it works in some constellations (chrome on ubuntu, firefox on android), but not in others or for other users. Now I am waiting for suggestions in those two posts.
