(after a few moments of patience, it resolved itself into the triceratops radical. I’m pretty sure it was just a connectivity issue, but it was mildly alarming, to say the least)

That happens here also, specifically with that radical

Yeah, several of Koichi’s radicals don’t exist in the kanji character set, so they’re represented by images instead. Sometimes it takes a little while for the images to load.

Some plugins block web fonts, which is how most of WK’s made-up radicals are implemented these days. So, if you have any security/adware plugins, try disabling them on wanikani.com.
