What am I doing wrong

Doing my reviews for kanji and I keep getting this sound wrong (う) it is in several kanji and to me, it looks like the hiragana for the sound U but everytime I type it in a kanji meaning it comes up wrong. Example: にゅう which I think is the writing for kanji for enter. That hiragana is also at the end of cross and above. I assume I am seeing it wrong but can’t figure out what other sounds it could be based off the mnemonics given and that fact that I am still very new, lol. Any help would be appreciated as I can’t move on until I figure this out.

Why is my reading answer for 入 (にゅう), 上 (じょう), 九 (きゅう), 力 (りょく), 十 (じゅう), or 女 (じょ) being marked incorrect? I’m putting in the right answer!
Most likely, you are putting in a big や, ゆ, or よ instead of a small one. See the difference?

にゆう = niyuu
にゅう = nyuu
じよう = jiyou
じょう = jou/jyou
きゆう = kiyuu
きゅう = kyuu
りよく = riyoku
りょく = ryoku
じゆう = jiyuu
じゅう = juu/jyuu
じよ = jiyo
じょ = jo/jyo

The difference is big, and it’s important to get these correct. For example, じゆう means “freedom,” so if you wrote that in instead of じゅう you would be saying something completely different.

You could be entering にゆう for the “enter” kanji, rather than にゅう (note the little ゅ). The first is done by typing “ni-yuu”, while the second is done by typing “nyuu.” Is that perhaps your issue?

Heh, ninja’d.

Thanks- I didn’t notice the difference in size, lol. I will try that. I was using the kana chart given but maybe I will just type them out and see if that works.

That makes sense now that I see the size difference

Yeah, you can type your answers in romaji, since Wanikani will convert it to hiragana :slight_smile:
