Does やっぱ function as a shortened やっぱり here (and elsewhere), or does it mean something different?

Jisho def #2 says “still” or “as before”, which could work here as something like “on the matter of you and me, is it like before…?”

I could be wrong, because my knowledge of the word just comes from input and context. But with a slight change in nuance, I think a translation of something like “after all” or “as I thought” works better here.

Even with the definition on Jisho of “still/as before”, the example sentence for it provides more context:

Here “still” is a good translation, but it doesn’t mean things are the way they were before. It’s more so “after all, I still miss the old house.”

So in this sentence, he doesn’t finish his thought but if he did it would be: 「やっぱお前オレのこと好きだよね」So he’s trying to say she still likes him. The やっぱ here gives the nuance that, that is what he was thinking/suspecting. “Oh, as I thought, you still like me!!”

No idea how the うるさくて is supposed to function, or why it has a て at the end. Maybe it’s the 3rd definition (bossy, nagging, etc) and is him referring to his mom?

Yes! I think he was meaning she was nagging him. Here the て makes it sound like he’s leaving his sentence unfinished. Like if in English you said “She kept nagging me about it, so…”

Yes indeed!! Like you said, もう has that idea of “jeez/come on/leave already.” Sometimes if people are having a bad day or something, they will even just say 「もう！！」 like “come on!!! >:(“

This mostly checks out for me as “I’ll go to give proper thanks to obachan another (next) time.” What does からさ do here? I’m thinking さ is its own ending particle adding assertiveness, but how does から fit in?

Maybe some others would have a different interpretation. But for the から part, she wants him to leave and doesn’t really wanna talk to him anymore lol. So I think it’s like her trying to say “Don’t worry, stop bothering me about it. Don’t worry because I will thank her properly. Happy? Now go away” lol

I read this as “Why are you playing cards in a person’s house!?” I guess? What’s the significance of using of 人 in 人ん家, which I take as a shortened 人の家. Or, why wouldn’t she say “あなしの家” instead?

I understand this to be an idiomatic use of 人 when criticizing or reproaching someone—see the last definition on jisho

And personally, I like to think of it as a little like saying, in English, something like “don’t just march into people’s homes and play cards!” Of course, “people” here really just means “my”, but you get this usage pretty often when expression disapproval

That makes total sense to me! Thanks, I didn’t see that definition under 人 (and probably wouldn’t have understood it anyway).

Ok, yeah, that makes sense. Like on the next page, when 翔太 says:

楓が帰ってきたら
大富豪やろうって言ってたからさー…

It would mean something like:

Since I told Dino we could play Daifugou when you got back… (can we play?)"

I suppose we do the same thing in English; making sentences from dependent clauses starting with words like “but” or “because” and not finishing with an independent clause. I’ll have to keep that in mind as an option more. Thank you for taking the time for all of these helpful responses!!!

A reasonable guess, but it’s actually about Kaede’s mobile phone ringing with an incoming call from Shouta:

You can see this meaning in a dictionary under 電話に出る, or one of the numerous meanings of 出る

I’m making a point of looking up as little as possible and being happy even if i just get the general gist of things. This chapter went particularly well! Lots of helpful cues and i think i got what they were saying.

My favourite cell was seeing 恐竜 ‘the caretaker’ prancing around the bedroom
