Spoiler for meeting with Shiki (I think part 5?) (Also spoilers for book 1)
Shiki said that the first time she met Moe she was pure, the second time she was covered, and now she’s in between. Anyone know/remember what she was referring to? (I barely remember the first book.) My recollection is that Shiki only really met Moe once, when posing as her sister (since one of the big twists was that the “Shiki” Moe meets in the first scene is actually the daughter). Even if Shiki was counting the meeting between Moe and the daughter, I wouldn’t have expected Moe to be much different between that meeting and when she went to the island for the murders… Obviously the big turning point in Moe’s life was her parents’ death, so I could understand it if Shiki was talking about before and after that, but I don’t think Shiki ever met Moe before that.

Well that was a strong start! Moe doesn’t usually get herself nearly killed until way later in the book. I also expected Magata Siki’s involvement to be revealed to our protagonists at the end… But no, they learn she’s there in chapter 1 and meet her in chapter 2. That escalated quickly.
That’s a good point on the reference to book 1. I don’t remember it that well either so no idea.
I don’t have much to add except that if I were staying at Disneyland and found out the CEO was harboring a supervillain, I probably wouldn’t trust the payphone in front of the hotel
Alright, I just switched into catchup mode I’m still missing 6 or so pages from this chapter, but my brain can’t take it any more and I need to write some comments
Hm, I did not expect that at all - in my mind he is super close to Shiki and follows her and her commands blindly. I think she would damage herself a lot when she killed him. Why did you think so?
When I read what he had told the two girls, I was pretty sure he would be fired or killed soon - it was just too much openness for such a secretive company.
This was so ridiculous! First of all, they want to evacuate their room because they are afraid of being wiretapped - did they only think the phone was wiretapped and not the room? - and of people being able to enter their room at will. So they search a phone box that is literally still on premise, and the two girls knew this! Secondly, they get told that the cops are being sent to them from WITHIN the park! I was pretty much expecting they were false cops and the three would be kidnapped by them. And then things happen and they forget about everything and even return to their room and keep talking about the case!
I was also confused about that… and I only remember book 1 very vaguely so no idea.
I wasn’t planning to start for another 2 weeks, but sometimes life changes your plans.. Since we got sick, the rest of our hiking plans got suspended (or cancelled, more likely). Anyway, I was curious about this book and now I unexpectedly have the time to read it. Yay.
So far it’s quite fun! I’m glad we’re not spending quite so much time on the preamble and setup and moving right into the action here, haha.
One thing that surprised me (aside from characters from book 1 showing back up)
is how 萌絵’s acting pretty much like a normal person here. Aside from going into the church, she has done everything she can to stay away from danger. I suppose that first meeting with 四季 would have left quite an impression.
Feels like not mentioning the elevator and the company housing a known genius killer right away will come back to bite her later… I wonder how much 新庄 really knows…
Anyway; in spite of this being the longest book in the series, it feels quite fast paced.
