Turns out the park and 公会堂 are real!

Floor plans, since the book doesn’t have a map

Thanks!
The two rooms mentioned are these two right?

As written in the book they do stick out of the building a bit so you have windows on three sides!
The left one is marked as a 倉庫, not 控室. I wonder if its use has changed since the book was written (seems likely) or if the discrepency has some significance…
Also in the book it says you have to go all the way back to the entrance hall to go to the top right room because you just can’t cut through the main hall, but on this floorplan it looks like you can… There are doors on both sides of the 集会室 and also on the main hall. Again, this might have been changed later, that 集会室 might not even have existed. But it would make sense to have doors there.

Yeah, I think it’s those two rooms. The floorplan probably was redone, or maybe the 公会堂 in the book is just a little different from the IRL 公会堂. (Or those doors could’ve been locked, since they did mention locking everything up at night.) The book doesn’t mention the stairs at all, and my feeling was that there was only one elevator bank, not two…

In the prologue, Terabayashi woke up in the locked 控室 with Asuka’s corpse on Saturday night, right? I wonder why the police said they didn’t find anything when they investigated the 公会堂. I guess it’s not clear how thoroughly they checked (did they actually enter the room, or did they just figure it was empty b/c it was closed+locked, the lights were off, and there was no response?), but if they actually confirmed the room was empty that’d make things a lot weirder…

It could be, but then I’m wondering why those changes were made. The fact that you have to go this long U-shaped path to go from the left room to the right one sounds like it might be important for the plot.

I think he wakes up the next morning. It says 「翌日の朝、寺林高司は発見される。 彼は、控室の中に倒れていた。」
Indeed I don’t think the police investigated the building very thoroughly prior to that. They didn’t have any reason to think he was hiding in the building.
