Wanikani Wednesday Weekly Word Web!

粉雪 powder snow apparently this is also the name of an old song? I heard it for the first time the other day and it was a nice ballad type thing. I don’t remember the name of the band though, it was a lot of katakana

That looks really cool. I picked ink as the word this week because I’m trying to get started in traditional illustration with ink as a watercolor mix. I think that medium is sometimes called ink wash.

Should go without saying that these are from more experienced artists, not mine.

Ink is a challenging medium because it’s so permanent but these look really cool.

I love ink drawings like that! They are so striking, and the skill to not mess up on the whole page is so impressive. I hope you enjoy the course!

入れ墨 いれずみ tattoo. I know it’s low hanging fruit, but it’s the first thing I think of when it comes to 墨.

Those paintings look so cool!! I hope the class goes well and you can learn a lot form him!

It’s not low hanging fruit, it’s pretty common in English to call tattoos ink as a kind of slang or shortening. I don’t think I’ll ever get a tattoo but it’s kind of cool to have something permanently part of you.

I’m quite familiar with hearing the word because it is often used in anime shows, but I was not previously aware of the spelling.

When I looked up the meaning of the first character (horseman) it immediately brought the following to mind:

人馬一体

It’s a saying that supposedly represents the Mazda design philosophy - Jinba Ittai - essentially describing a goal of having the horse and the rider act in perfect harmony effectively acting as one single body, as reflecting the goal of producing a sports car that achieves perfection by emulating that strong bond and sense of connection between the driver and the vehicle.Of course, I sometimes prefer my alternate, WK-learner’s interpretation of that phrase, reading it instead as ‘A man, a horse, what the heck?’

I’m a week late AA

天使 てんし angel

this is a very uh… specific association because my partner and I have pet names for each other and mine for him is 騎士 and his for me is 天使 so… :face_with_peeking_eye:

It also is kinda like a knight in the sky?

Oh, that’s cute, they both end with し sounds even though it’s different kanji.

読む because reading in a comfy chair by a window when it’s raining is euphoric.

小雨 こさめ light rain

I remember when this word came up on Satori reader and Brian the developer pointed out the special reading and that he thought it was a beautiful word. At the time I didn’t know what should make one word beautiful or not but in the meantime maybe Japanese has changed my ear. I also think it’s a beautiful word and much more deserving of its meaning than drizzle which sounds harsh to me now

Maybe during the readathon or something, it’ll rain some?

These seem to mean the same thing, but I guess there’s some difference or there wouldn’t be separate words.

We don’t get a lot of rain most of the time but I prefer light rain over hurricane weather or intense downpours.
