May I suggest LingoDeer, if you’ve been using Duolingo and want to try something that’s more Asian language specific. I find it’s honestly light and day in terms of how one more than the other is built for teaching stuff like how kanjia and kana combine. I actually wrote a big thing about it earlier today:

As a daily user of both, I can say that LingoDeer far surpasses DuoLingo when it comes to actually teaching you the language. Today I discovered the stories in LingoDeer, and I absolutely love that they come with a deck to review vocabulary and grammar concepts used in the story. I also like that the vocabulary and grammar review decks are included.
These days, I use Duo for review and Lingo + textbooks and reference books for actual learning.

I’m also not a sponsor for LingoDeer. Just a very enthusiastic user. I bought the lifetime sub when it was on sale, and I feel good knowing when I want to learn Korean and Chinese, they’re right there waiting for me.

I’ve installed the undo script mainly for cases like these, since you can just undo and then add the synonym you entered right there.

I’ll try it! Thank you!

Yea it’s weird since there’s not a real equivalent of what they are to English. But some of those basic, yet so foreign concepts like what Kanji mean/are, On’yomi vs Kun’yomi, really strange grammar structures, etc are what make this hard in the beginning but you get the hang of before you know it, and that’s a great feeling. Stick with it, it’s so much fun getting better at another language (even if it’s difficult)!

(And ofc I don’t mean any of this to be condescending, it’s just really easy to get discouraged when you’re this early on so I just wanted to say a few words of encouragement!)

Undo script is a lifesaver, but (ominous voice) only for those who can handle it… I’ve had some moments of weakness with some of those last kanji I need to finish a level on time, it can be a battle of will if there aren’t any consequences to hitting that button, even if I’m completely wrong!

Luckily it doesn’t happen too often to me, so I simply add a synonym and I forget about it. But when it happens, it still hurts (especially at 1 or 2 am) :sob:

Every level when you see that huge pile of new lessons

Even just level 2, I didn’t expect to see the crabigator looking overwhelmed so soon. I’m definitely going to have start managing my apprentice count in a couple levels. Didn’t remember how brutal leveling up is.

Don’t let the lesson count pressure you. Go at the pace that feels natural to you. Every once in a while, you’ll have 0 lessons while you’re waiting for kanji to guru, which at least for me is a nice time to catch a breath and relax a bit.

Oh yeah, I’ve done this before, I reset to level one since I’ve been away from wk for a long time. Thank you though!
