Today's Lessons always Done?

Hi new user here. I think I started 3 days ago in the evening where I live PST. It was around 10-11pm and did the very first radical lesson.

The next day I was bummed out to see that it said my lessons for the day were done and it seems like the site does not register my local time but wherever the server is?

So I just clicked Start Reviews and waited until the next day. And it still said Todays Lessons Done?

So I went into the settings and bumped up the amount of kanji per day just to get some more, did those, but then today its the same thing Todays Lessons Done.

What is going on? I cant use this…

This image shows that it says that “today” i’ve done 10? I think? at 3pm? But you can see its 1030am … and I havent done anything, not even review

You are level 1 and you have done all your available lessons.

Do you see the little green dots under your radicals? When you fill in all dots, so you see a green line, you unlock the kanji for that radical. When you fill the line for a kanji, you unlock vocab.

You can hover over the green dots and see how long it is until you get it to the next phase.

Ok so I’m just supposed to review over and over and then more lessons will appear?

Maybe its just me but that seems pretty unintuitive for a new user, typically I associate review as an optional thing

Thank you for clarifying though

So you didn’t read anything about what this website does before joining? That is the only way I can imagine you would not know about SRS. There is a very substantial help section available from link in top right corner of WK (not from this forum).

I am aware of SRS, I use Anki

However if there needs to be an FAQ on how to get more lessons its a design flaw of the site.

I assume that my daily lessons are the SRS, not review. Like it’s called “Todays Lessons” but they arent daily cause you need to do review to unlock them which appears to take longer than a day. This is poorly designed.

“the SRS” are reviews. For each item you do lesson first, to add it to review queue. Than you will get it in reviews until you burn it.

You have very few lessons at the start because all the other content depends on them. Don’t worry about the amount of content, you will have hundreds of lessons available soon.

Awesome, thank you. I was just really confused there, it’s making a lot more sense now so thanks for clarifying

This question gets asked all the time. I think it could be clearer, but I also think new users should be aware of what they’re signing up for. Reviews are definitely not optional on WaniKani; they are really the core of the site.

I have answered this sort of question a few times before, so here’s a link to one of my previous answers (to build on previous posts in this thread): Still unsure how to use the app - #3 by northpilot
