Well well well. I had actually signed up for this book and have a physical copy !
The pacing will probably be too tough for me, but hey, let’s try. This got me more intrigued than the ABBC book anyway.

Thanks, that makes sense. I guess I was searching for some…more meaningful connection between storms and unusual behavior or something. Meh, jokes that have to be explained to you are just not funny .
I gave it a try.
Oof. This is hard. I think I could read that if I took the time, followed the vocab list and all.
But reading until page 17 is just too much for that week. Guess I’ll go back to ABBC for now.
I mean of course I don’t want to assume how much time you have, but note that we are only Tuesday, it’s okay to spread the reading on several days
This weeks content was alright, i mean its half a chapter and i still have to wait and see in depth character personalities and dynamics to judge it.
Yeah, even what we consider “beginner book club” level is quite hard. Reading material aimed at a native audience is tough. Even the stuff aimed at young children is tough! It’s a long steady journey getting into this reading.
Don’t feel bad about dropping this one. Keep working away on easier content and it gradually gets better. One day you’ll come back to this and be pleased at how far you’ve come! It’s actually very satisfying coming back to a book that was too hard in the past and being able to read it.
Thanks !
I don’t feel bad at all. I actually I’d be able to read this, it’s more about quantity than difficulty. Hopefully, in 2024, I’ll reconsider the amount of SRS I do everyday, to spend more time on Book clubs and Satori Reader.
I’m getting closer to the end of N3 on bunpro, and I’m almost level 30 on WK. It will be a good time to switch gears.
I only decided to participate yesterday, but I just finished Week 1’s content (thankfully it was only half a chapter). Now I’m only one day behind
Potential of 注ぐ.
is there similar competetions for n5 books?
Yes, it is called the Absolute Beginner Book Club (ABBC). It is not garanted that it is only N5, but you don’t read as many pages per week as in this one and should be in general an easier read. The ABBC will start reading its next pick next week, good timing if you want to join! It’s over there: 可愛いだけじゃない式守さん・ Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie ❤️🩹 (Absolute Beginner Book Club) - Starting December 16th!
ohh awsome thxx sooo much
Hello! Wondering if someone could help explain the panel on p.7 that begins with ‘いいかげん…’ . I’m not sure what that phrase means here, but also the context and meaning (like how does she use that phrase to transition out of the conversation and her feeling guilty about punching a hole in the painting?)
Excited to join a book club again after a long time away!
Kind of like what it always means, “Cut it out” or “Enough”. They were going on about how she murdered a drawing and she’s kind of moving away from that little gag, and then proceeds to tell him to act more like a person that belongs to an art club.
It’s short for いいかげんにする.
Ah that would make more sense! I got confused by the dictionary definition of the adjective…
Another question! What does the ‘たい’ mean in the last box of p.9? “いつたいどこまでいく気なんだ?”
It’s a small っ before that, so it’s a single word いったい.
Hahahhaa oh my goodness, thank you!
Link to week 2 wasn’t posted here yet, almost made me forget that it’s week 2, so here is the reminder for those in the same situation as me
