The Intermediate Manga Club (IMC) // Reading Now: Dr.STONE

Only one day left to vote

I thought today was the last day. Guess I’m losing track of what day it is.

I thought so too, I’m fairly sure it said 明日 yesterday.

Pretty suspicious.

Maybe it was tomorrow Japan time

Most likely yes, but where’s the fun in that?

No last minute twist, アンリの靴 1 has been leading the poll pretty much the whole time and is now the winner! Congrats!

アンリの靴 1 is our next pick :hiking_boot:

@seanblue it was your nomination but I thinking I remember that you were not willing to run a club, do I remember right / does that still hold? if yes then we’ll need a volunteer

If someone wants to volunteer that’s fine by me! But if not I can probably run this one.

Great news! Thanks!

Looks like this one will be on the lower side of word density per page for IMC, very much comparable with 「とんがり帽子のアトリエ」. If you found that one easy to read through (and aren’t a bajillion volumes behind the offshoot like I am[1]), this one should be a little bit easier.

[1] This part has nothing to do with it.

Anyone want to run the Anri book club? If not I guess I’ll make the home thread and start a discussion on the schedule sometime this week.

Home thread is up!

Does manga club have to be slow paced? How about easier (e.g. L20-27) and fast?

Now, I also wonder about Advanced Manga Club. Not so easy, and relatively fast.

The problem IMO is that “advanced” pace for a shounen/shoujo manga is basically one volume/week. In not sure that would fit the club format unless we start reading multiple volumes (which could be too expensive for some participants).

I dunno, at that rate, the club would be able to get through One Piece in a mere two years (barring ol’ Zeno getting his sticky fingers into things) rather than two decades. :stuck_out_tongue:

Time limited trial of popular manga might work, except that there might need to be more than 1 volume per week, not to mention no time to vote.

If i wasn’t in 6 clubs, yes it would work to read a volume per week and it would be about the same overall cost

That’s a fun idea actually. It could be a “snack club” of 1-2 weeks in between regular clubs!

This could be a whole thing. If someone is motivated to run a super short club for a limited time free-to-read first volume they could just announce it and set it up and all who can/want to join do, without needing to hold a vote … Could be very fun and spontaneous.

To get an idea I tried to calculate a very rough estimate of the number of characters per volume in Dragon Ball (L22) by counting the characters in a text-dense page and multiplying by the number of pages, which probably ends up overshooting by quite a lot, and I end up with around 30k characters (including punctuation) per volume, which is roughly what the current ABC is reading per week. And Dragon Ball is significantly easier overall of course, less vocab and much simpler sentence structure than a level 30+ novel.

People who use mokuro can probably give more accurate character counts.
