花野井くんと恋の病 Vol. 2 | Free to read through Nov 9 (JST)

Welcome to the open beta (#2) of the Speed Run Book Club!
Heartily plagiarized from shitsurei’s original Speed Run Club, thank you shitsurei-senpai.

Based on a crazy idea thought up in the IMC thread, we will aim to read some of the 3 currently available free to read volumes before the time limit is over on Invalid date.

The free to read volumes can be found at Bookwalker, and possibly other places as well. Below you will find the Bookwalker links.
Volume 1
Volume 2
Volume 3

This manga has been praised for its healthy relationship development, twists and turns, strong secondary characters, and general sweet and wholesome atmosphere.

The only schedule that this club has is that the book will no longer be free to read at Invalid date. Feel free to continue to use the threads after this date if you’re reading this in the future. Also, hi from the past! :waving_hand:

Will you be joining us?
  • Yes! :growing_heart:
  • I’m just here for the discussion.
  • I’m joining after the club has ended. :stopwatch:
  • No.. :stop_sign:

Please use this thread for volume 2. All spoilers should go behind blurred spoiler tags or in the a hide details drop down.

I will start the discussion for volume 2, since I only finished reading it a couple days ago!

I got massively excited when (chapter 6) Hotaru decided to apply for a job at a bookstore! I really hope her bookstore job continues to play a role in future volumes!

One of my favorite scenes, chapter 8

Another favorite scene, later in chapter 8, page 140-142

First, Hotaru suddenly realizing what she got herself into:

The sudden English tickled me.

Movie scene continues …

I lol’d.

I’m done with the first two chapters of this volume  It became more cute and gives me less “yandere” vibes now. He now reads more like a high school boy whos in love for the first time and doesnt know how to deal with those intense feelings yet ^^ I’m sure I’m missing out on some in-between tones, though that someone better in japanese would pick up.

Just finished volume 2!

Lmao at the bios, if you compare the two main protagonists xdd

ほたるの隣のクラスのイケメン for 花野井
食べることが大好き for ほたる
xdddd

ほたる is just a girl in the world

第5話

絆さる, what a big word
トッポギ - tteokbokki, amazing xddd
どうしたほたるフグみたいになって, what an expression xdddd

第6話

Ahhh, similar level of bullshit at job interviews to the West, even if it’s just for working at a レジ xdddd

Also, childhood photos, awww C:

第7話

they made the hug look so juicy and so warm and aaa :sob:

第8話

Love how they translated “おい、あいつは一体どこに” to “Oh shit, where is he…!?” in the cinema scene xddd

CROQUET EARRINGS WE STAAAAN :DDDD

Overall, I’m starting to see where the story direction is going, sweet manga C:

one volume to go!

It’s interesting you mention “yandere”, because to me yandere always felt like the mental illness, and not the physical one, and they look perfectly neurotypical to me

The biggest difference I can tell apart is how quick their relationship is developing, but that’s also alternating, as they start off on a very strong foot in chapter 1 but it takes until chapter 8 for them to go on a first date xddd ^^

I don’t really know yandere archetypes well, I just used the word cause it was used for him in the vol1 discussion ^^ so feel free to correct and educate me  He was rendering insanely obsessed and slightly dangerous to me in the beginning of the first volume, like he would start to stalk her or something.

hm, to me he just felt awkward and not very versed in socialization because of his condition, but I can buy the interpretation that maybe his condition affects his personality type too

I’m finished with this volume. I loved how the roof scene and the self planned date really let her pesonality shine.

Maybe I read to fast and superficial but I need to know: did he went with the ambulance after getting hit with that ball? or at least get to a clinic directly afterwards? I’m way to concerned for imaginary people today

It seems that no, just assumed as lack of sleep (despite the loud bang :collision:)

Dunno, but it’s described as (愛が)重い. 恋の病 may make people change, but he’s pretty bad from the beginning.
