From now until 2PM PST today, the Lifetime plan can be purchased for $199 USD (plus any applicable taxes) instead of $299 USD. The official sale will start next Wednesday though, so don’t worry if you miss it today.
If you currently have time remaining on your monthly or annual plan, you will automatically receive a prorated refund after you purchase lifetime. You’ll receive a second invoice email to inform you of the refund.

Regarding the page design—I found it a little confusing that clicking the big pink “Get Lifetime” button takes you to the Subscription page where there are no big pink buttons indicating which one will upgrade you to Lifetime.
Although wanikani is not available in my native language or on Android, I’m liking it so much that I couldn’t resist. Although the taxes paid on top of the base price hurt a bit.
Quick question:
Can I use a different card to make the upgrade and still receive the refund?
I might have to check that, but I belive the (virtual) credit card I used for the yearly sub got cancelled a couple months ago
Great question! The refund will be on the previous purchase, so it would be to your old credit card, but the banks typically work it out so that the money goes into your correct account. If not, the refund will return to our account and we can figure out a different way to get you the money. Could you email us (hello@wanikani.com) with the specific info and we can look into this better?
