I was wondering the same. Thanks Mr. Generic for sharing that link.
Just finished this week’s reading. Aw, summer vacation is no fun if you don’t get to tease your crush every day. But Takagi sure found a way around it. And managed to make Nishikata jealous, even if he doesn’t even admit it to himself.
I added ハメをはずす to the word list, because looking up ハメ on its own returned results that no teacher would say.
I suppose あっちー and あちーんだよ are actually a contracted 暑い?
Thanks because I also just looked up ハメand thought “who the heck is this teacher”
That’s what got out of it. Context supports it, with mention of the heat in a following panel. But I’ll admit I was initially curious if there was some other meaning I was missing.
not necessarily a contraction say more slangy…or lazy speaking… (i.e… ない becomes ねぇ)
similarly (different word but similar use)
I mean your example of ない → ねぇ is a contraction though, and for this あっちい/あちい definitely seem like a similar sort of contraction, in which the sound gets scrunched up a bit and comes out sounding more like ち than つい. You can sort of hear that happening if you start saying あつい faster and faster, so I don’t think it being a colloquialism with its own dictionary entry necessarily precludes it being a contraction
A lot of slang/lazy speaking in general takes the form of contractions (take also something like そりゃ for それは)
fair enough…generally think of contractions as more formal…but then again…they don’t have to be
officially not slacking…vocab is populated …
this chapter was so cute!!!
This was another good chapter. I’m surprised Nishikata accepted Takagi’s suggestion to practice every day so willingly. I definitely thought he’d try to reject the idea outright.
Got to love Takagi going for one of the oldest motivators in the book: making the man jealous so he tries his best to outdo the other man mentioned
Finished up with the chapter today. It was super adorable. I had a couple things I had to look up, but nothing that was too crazy! Looking forward to the next chapter!
Happy weekend, y’all! I look forward to Chapter 7 with everybody! This is the last weekend where I’ll be less participatory!
- I will be reading along!
- I will catch up later!
- I won’t be reading (anymore)

Another cute story.
What do you think うおーつえー means, at the bottom of page 3?
And again with the mysteriously shaped kana, is this first one an う?
I haven’t read the chapter yet, but could うおー be like, “Woah” and つえー be a contracted/slangy 強い (つよい) in the context?
Also, yes, I would read that as う.
Yes, that would make perfect sense! Thanks.
No problem! I’m just glad that spitball hit its mark.
this book is so fun and adorable and way better than the current BBC book hehe finished populating the vocab … enjoy!!!
EDIT: Just realized there are only 2 weeks left… are you starting to work on planning the 3rd vol yet? @anon99047008
Yes! The evening after I drop my significant other off at the airport (this coming Tuesday), I will post all the polls necessary and get it scheduled out. (:
本当に楽しんでいます!!! BBCの本が大変ですよね! (笑)
