Teasing Master Takagi-san 😝 ・ Volume 2 Discussion Thread [Volume Complete]

I ended up reading it a day early. Another lovely chapter. Takagi is getting more and more direct it seems, I wonder what’s next.

I mean, that look

look

Grammar-wise, it was interesting to see xはxで again. I had encountered it in another book club, and I’m still not entirely sure how to interpret it. It seems to be used in order to emphasize some kind of contrast, depending on context. It’s pretty hard to find more about this construct. If anyone has more information from somewhere, I’d love to read more.

Also, é’æ˜„ă™ă‚‹ seems to mean to experience one’s youth, whatever that entails. From the jisho definition for 青昄 it wasn’t very obvious to me how the する verb worked, but this link seems to confirm it.

you can also think about this as “the springtime of one’s youth” if that helps
basically like adolescence or teen years depending on how it’s used.

here’s some more sentences

No yeah, 青昄 on it’s own was clear enough, it was the する after it that wasn’t immediately obvious. Do youth? Do adolescence? It seems it doesn’t just mean be young, but rather experience your youth and all it has to offer, or something along those lines.

doing a bunch of reorganizing and someone asked for pictures of books
thought well

For a moment there I thought you had duplicates of 5-15, and I was thinking, “
should I say something?” But I see now that they’re the same ones in both photos.

You’re definitely in this for the long haul =D

yeah I have too many books I haven’t read because they were too hard or just having fun shopping

right now I’m working through 5 different books albeit slowly

=== edit

actually bought a lot of stuff in late 2019
shortly after I started learning Japanese thinking woo hoo let’s read
 blindly going sure no problem
then full crash into a wall WTH is this madness

It’s only recently I’ve been able to actually enjoy things more
reading is still sometimes a headache but at least the pain is slowing becoming joy (not having to look up as much)

I definitely know how that can be! (Moving a little off-topic of the thread.)

A little bit earlier today, while organizing a bookshelf, I picked up a copy of a Japanese novelization of Disney’s animated Aladdin movie. I remember buying it years back thinking, "I know this movie by heart. This will be the first thing I can read for real this time! Then when the package arrived, it turns out the postal service managed to lose all the furigana along the way.

The book’s dimensions are so small that I might need to buy reading glasses by the time I can actually read it. But I glanced over it and found that I was able to mostly read through parts. Granted, there were unknown kanji that I could guess by knowing the context. “Hm, this 蛇 has to be either ‘snake’ or ‘scepter’. Since it has 虫 in it, I’m thinking ‘snake’.”

I’m still not ready to work my way through a physical book with no furigana, but it was nice to finally be able to read through bits and pieces!

had to go check because thought maybe
I ended up buying the 2nd series by mistake when I ordered originally (had to repurchase the 1st series) or wouldn’t even have the second
but yeah it turns out I do have duplicates of 9-13 actually
really easy mistake with the titles being almost the same!.. oh well thankfully manga isn’t horribly expensive

Ohhh that’s super helpful for me thanks, I think that matches up with a phrase used in Naruto.

It’s a phrase I feel like I saw showing up in Kamen Rider Fourze a lot when I watched that, so it’s probably a common way of translating the word

got through half of the chapter yesterday
finished it up today
vocab is populated (if anyone needs it)
not sure who’s using it with our small group

Finished reading the chapter this morning! Had to look up a couple things, but nothing that really threw me for a loop this chapter, mostly just checking that I understood a word correctly here and there. I would agree that Takagi is getting more direct. It seems like she’s getting a bit more confident that Nishikata feels the same way, and is trying to bait him even more than she has in the past. It’s very cute.

For the 青昄 conversation, it’s something that I’ve seen a lot, especially in slice-of-life anime. Certainly I know it was a bit of a theme in parts of OreGairu (Hikigaya goes off on how ridiculous the concept is in the very first episode, if I recall), off the top of my head, but “experiencing one’s youth to the fullest” seems to be a common trope across most romantic slice-of-life media in general.

This chapter was good. Takagi is getting bolder and bolder every chapter. Quick question on page 11.

page 11

The first panel has Nishikata saying
ă€ŒçŸ„ă‚‰ăȘă‹ăŁăŸâ€Šă‚ˆăäž€ç·’ă«ă„ă‚‹ăȘăƒŒăŁăŠæ€ăŁăŠăŻă„ăŸă‘ă©â€Šă€
which I roughly understood to mean “I didn’t know
I was wondering why I saw them together so much
” My question comes from the æ€ăŁăŠăŻă„ăŸ, I’m not sure how to read this; I have no idea what the はいた part of it is supposed to mean.

Ooh, just noticed the は there too. I’m not positive, but I think adding the は doesn’t change the meaning too much, but just adds a nuance of having thought that repeatedly in the past.

I read it as, “I didn’t know
but I had often (the repetitive part) wondered about how they were together
”

Maggie-sensei mentions the “repetitive action” use of どは:

Took a while to get round to this chapter since I was focusing on other reading (making good progress through æ™‚ă‚’ă‹ă‘ă‚‹ć°‘ć„ł), but just read it since I felt like relaxing a bit today

Was cute, really goes to show the difference in how perceptive Takagi is vs Nishikata haha

I was also wondering about the æ€ăŁăŠăŻă„ăŸ on page 11, so thanks for clearing that up

I thought I had another question but I can’t find it now so guess it must have just cleared itself up for me
