Hey there. Anyone knows if there will ever be discounts of subscription fees during Christmas or New Year’s holidays?
Or, have there ever been in the past?
There has been a discount for lifetime every end of year since I started using WK on 2021.
When do they usually start the Lifetime subscription sale? I plan on taking advantage of it.
There are no guarantees, but yeah, there is usually a discount session during christmas.
Even if you get montly or yearly in the time before that - previously these years you’ve gotten those costs back! Meaning, your best option is to get yearly even now, as you’ll get it back later as if you’ve payed toward the lifetime subscription.
But, yeah, unless you ask the team directly, there is now way for me to say this will also happen this year. Even, if it has these past years…
Not quite. You get the unused amount towards lifetime, not the whole amount. Still a good idea to get monthly or yearly now since it’ll only cost a bit extra (to avoid a two month gap in learning) and then upgrade to lifetime during the sale.
well, that’s what I meant.
Well, let’s hope they do happen this year too… Before I was thinking about waiting said discount to buy the lifetime subscription. But now I’m considering checking how much the difference in price between both the discounted yearly and lifetime subscriptions would be and making a decision based on that.
I think, the metric is more that, 1 do you have faith in your ability to make it to lv 60 on a 1 week per level basis + do you have reasons to make fast tracks. Like monetary reasons or needing this knowledge for work. Both means you’ll do best with just the yearly sub. That is the cheapest option for sure.
There are no downsides to the yearly sub, unless you feel uncommitted by lv3. Then monthly is the better option. But only then, as the yearly sub is cheapest.
I think 2 yearly subs is the best option for sure, cost wise. not getting lifetime. But, many end up having to reset to a previous level after having an unexpected break due to IRL circumstances. Or changes in priority in just general. Or, which is also a thing, while reaching lv 60 has made you much better at reading kanji, you’ll eventually forget stuff if you don’t put it to practice by reading. So, that can also cause you to want to keep on reviewing old content. And WK is a good platform for that. That’s when lifetime really becomes something useful to you. You don’t have to rush getting to lv 60 and you can redo previous stuff, if needs arise. But, it’s not the cheapest option.
Edit:
To make it clear, if you don’t have an active subscription: you cannot access any of the WK features that comes with having a level above the free levels 1-3. That includes any scripts you find here on WK. They all rely on the API and yeah, you won’t be able to see your real level data unless you have an active subscription.
You can however, and this is true for all of WK’s data, access all the levels on your own. Not through doing lessons and getting the SRS and doing reviews. You can simply read all the info the WK will provide: for free. That’s the same as reading a textbook about kanji, just curated by the Tofugu team instead I guess. And that IS the cheapest option, but it’s not really using WK anymore. ^^’
