So um… haha
I suppose that’s the bulk of reviews I have to do to catch up. I mean, I don’t mind. I am fully aware of my choices and I don’t regret it one bit. Life became overwhelming and it made me pause Japanese learning for some time. But it didn’t stop me from consuming Japanese media. So perhaps a bit of life update as well.
Feb 2025 - I was preparing for a business trip so understandably this is the time I stopped my lessons. The business trip was a product training at Thailand and I had to fly from my country and attend the 3-day training. But in reality I stayed there for about five days before returning home.
March 2025 - This is the ultimate reason why I started up my Japanese lessons on September last year. We planned a trip to Japan and we went there during the first week of March. It was still chilly but we were able to see the Cherry Blossoms bloom at Tokyo Disneyland. The past five months of WaniKani didn’t prepare me for casual conversations but it was helpful with picking out words when asking the locals, especially for directions. I remember “migi” and “hidari” being used when I asked them for the toilet. And yes it was, トイレはどこですか all the time at Tokyo Disneyland haha! I also was in awe when I recognize some kanjis in the wild. But it left me thinking wistfully about the wanikani lessons I knew I was neglecting. Needless to say, I loved every moment I had during my first Japan trip. We didn’t get to stay very long because I had only a handful of vacation leaves. But Japan truly changed my view of the world, and I find myself wishing to go back there just to escape the reality of my own country.
April to Present 2025 - I’ve started taking my health seriously for the past four months. I was feeling too lethargic, perpetually tired, and lacking in energy. I had a check up with my doctor and he told me to incorporate some moderate exercise in my routine. I’m being honest when I say I dislike doing exercise really, but I know I should do it. So my priority was to pick an exercise that would be low effort for me, meaning I don’t have to schedule it strictly, or pay for a lot like a gym, or to travel to another place to do the exercise. So I happened to picked running as my main exercise and before I knew it, I’ve been running consistently for 3 months now. I do take breaks from running for injury prevention so it’s been going well. I’ve lost around 16kg since April and I started seeing some non-scale results by now. I’ve actually decommissioned 3 of my old pants for new ones in smaller sizes.
During this time, I also watch anime whenever I do indoor runs on the treadmill. It’s incredibly boring (imo) compared to outdoor runs so I have to watch something to pass the time. I guess because of the previous lessons I had, I could pick up some words and phrases but I can’t decipher how it is being used. I just knew the dictionary meaning and it leaves me feeling frustrated because I could have learned this. But there’s no point in crying over spilled milk. I want to pick up where I left off of here.
So I’ll start with the reviews first before doing my lessons. Maybe a short update here and there. I’m not very good at keeping journals, that I have proven to myself time and time again. But I appreciate the words of encouragement a lot so yes! I still have the desire to continue learning.
@Gigahercz Haha thank you! I will. Sorry it has been so long!
@GolyBidoof The 460 reviews ended up to 2333 so yep it’s like 3 Mt. Fujis stacked on top of each other haha
@pemBOO Hi my friend and happy cake day to you! I have not given up, only parked for a while haha sweats
