Good to hear that it’s working for you (and welcome back, hi, etc!). I’m in a similar situation where I know I should exercise and have been doing much better at improving my health otherwise, but if I stop the starting back up again is hard. I did get a rebounder (fitness trampoline) and maybe tomorrow I’ll get back on it again finally. It’s a nice alternative to running for me since it’s easier on the knees and somehow less monotonous to me than running, and easier on the backside than biking. Got to remove as much friction as possible to try to make me stick with it!
Anyhow, the reset sounds like a good idea, when you reach your end goal it won’t feel any less special because you restarted (heck, it could well feel better because knowing that you had a chance to give up and decided you weren’t going to!).
Hi! Thanks a lot and welcome to my study log! I know, right? I’m glad you found a way to be more physically active. Here’s to our consistent improvement of our health! Wow that’s an interesting equipment, but I think I know what you mean. It doesn’t matter which type of exercise it is, as long as it gets your heart rate up to aerobic levels for a certain amount of time. It took me years of on and off exercise before deciding to just do it tbh. Running is an easy choice because in my office, I got a small support system of fellow runners and we hype each other up since we’re in Strava and can see each other’s activities. I’m still overweight so I know what you mean about the knees thing. But I make sure to do strength training for it to avoid injuries and lessen recovery time.
Hey that’s a really interesting perspective! It did feel daunting to have forgotten the recent lessons. It’s really my fault for not turning on the vacation mode. So this reset is all on me. But it’s still the early stages so I’m quite alright…for now haha
I’ve done some strength training (or maybe applied weakness mitigation) in the past, it’s similar in that I just don’t have that motivation to stick with it naturally. And even with the rebounder, I’m still bad about doing it - I stopped because I had a medical procedure and then a headache, and it’s always easy to find some excuse not to do it. Sounds like you’ve got a much better handle on that and hopefully talking through this might push my subconscious to stop being such a toddler and just do it.
I’m all about perspectives. We all have a tendency to see the things in front of us, especially those confronting us, from the direct point of view and have a hard time overcoming our assumptions about them (good or bad). Sometimes it helps to focus attention elsewhere - like with a reset, instead of thinking about why you had to, or feeling like it’s your fault for not using vacation mode, learn what you can from that experience and then decide whether you’re on the right path now.
If you’re on the right path, no matter what you might have gotten wrong in the past, it got you to where you are so while it might not be perfect, it’s part of your story now. If you don’t feel like you’re on the right path, then use that as motivation to consider what you think the right path is and what steps will get you closer to that. But remember that the right path isn’t the easy path, or one that requires you to be perfect - don’t expect that you have to be!
I leveled up just this morning but I’ll probably start on the lessons later when I get back home from work so there’s no pressure from the reviews. The workload is still manageable at the moment so I’m still okay and going strong.
That makes a lot of sense, especially if you’re still doing 25 a day (since they’re mostly review). Better to do them in a sustainable fashion than rush ahead.
I’m still doing 25 reviews in a day. But idk if it’s just the workload but there are days when I don’t actually have new lessons. I’m still finding the lower level kanjis and vocab easy.
I’ll probably level up around Monday night or Tuesday? I’m still doing 25 reviews a day and I find myself having no reviews on one day or so. So to help with that, I started up on Bunpro again and linked the WK API to it so I can put the WK vocab to Bunpro’s review. At first I totally forgot that I did this, so when I actually went and did Bunpro reviews, I was shocked to encounter some vocabs I learned from WK. Sometimes I feel like the context is different when it’s in a sentence compared to how I learned it in WK. So it’s definitely helping with sticking the vocabs in my head.
As for a life update, I have had ample rest the past few days - well, rest from working since there were a lot of holidays lined up with this weekend. I did my first 5km run (no walks) in the treadmill last Friday so that hyped me up a bit to do more runs. Although I’m trying to take it easy this coming week because the bottom of my left heel is a bit sore. I massage it every after runs and before sleeping and it improved somehow. I’m curious why my left one was sore when it’s the leg I don’t put much pressure on (a knee sprain from years ago). But I think it’s more or less a product of not warming up properly before running. I’ve since learned my lesson.
That seems unusual but the human body is kind of strange. Could it maybe be something in the shoe or something in the belt? Either way, it sounds like you’ve got it under control and are accomplishing what you set out to do, so keep up the good work!
It’s definitely the lack of warm up haha. Thank you! It’s feeling better than the past few days but there’s still soreness to it. It goes away when I walk or do movement but it starts to sore up when it’s at rest.
Another week finished~ I’m still keeping my Apprentice items below 100 (80, currently) so the reviews aren’t overwhelming me. Although I feel a bit daunted by the Master to Enlightened review pile but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there. I have around 383 items in my Guru pile, is that too much?
I am not taking new lessons in Bunpro, just a few lessons on Japanese particles under review. And the rest of the reviews come from WaniKani pile. And I’ve only been doing Bunpro reviews currently.
Left foot heel is feeling better so I think I can do my short distance runs again this week.
If it’s not countable, that’s too much. Otherwise, that’s just many.
A serious answer might be about peeking at the number of reviews per day.
An old wisdom of a speedrunner was A 150 G 500; though it should decrease proportionally for going slower. Anyway, they don’t boomerang as much surprise debt as M or E.
Yeah that makes sense. Also I was just thinking that maybe the 383 items will be done in like a series of consecutive hours like in Apprentice, but you’re right. It’s spaced out and I’m actually only getting 20 ish items going to Master at the moment.
My reviews per day is around 60 ish items. But I do my reviews on the hour they come so by the time it gets to 6-7pm, I only have around 40 ish review. Perhaps now it is manageable since I don’t have other hobbies taking up my time aside from reading novels and doing lessons/reviews for WaniKani.
