is there a way to skip over SRS stages for a review item?
For example, if I answer an item correctly for the first time, it will be scheduled to reappear in 4 hours.
If I do my next batch of review after 24h instead of 4 hours for the item above, and answer correctly again, the item in question will move up only one SRS stage and reappear after 8 (~ish, I can’t recall the exact times) hours.
But at this point I feel like I’ve proven that I didn’t forget it even after the interval of higher SRS stages. So can’t the item be directly moved up multiple stages?
Maybe there is a userscript or app for this? I took a brief look at the API but couldn’t find any way to set the srs stage.
I’ll try to work out a more detailed example if no one understands me but for now, thanks for your help!
The API does not include anything that could be used to skip items ahead or mark items as known.
The only related thing you can do with a userscript is mark reviews correct automatically, which still requires you to wait for the actual review.
This is a result of the WaniKani design philosophy to not include any features that could be used to create an artificial feeling of knowing items better than you actually do, regardless of any potential benefits they could bring if used correctly.
But, if you know some items well enough already, your reviews should take very little time and effort for you. You’ll be moving up the levels in no time.

Thats what I’ve read elsewhere and I mostly agree, its just that my review pacing can be really inconsistent at times so having a typo at later stages throws an item back weeks
I see, I can understand the reasoning behind this. Even though I feel like in this instance the negatives are negligible, they may very well be abused in other instances.
I think it’s important to not think too much about getting things wrong in terms of a set-back. Rather, think of it as all part of the learning process. True typos, maybe not, but I find that they can often originate from some sort of uncertainty as well.
At the end of the day, you will fail items and they will be thrown back weeks or even months. It’s just not possible to burn all items on the first try. So, it’s important to try to get into a mental space where you take things with calm. To fail is also to learn, and in this case, you cannot truly fail doing WK - you can only get better at reading kanji the more you review and do lessons. You can only win.
Yes and no. The fact you got that one item right after 24 hours is a good sign, but perhaps you already knew that item before? Or spent more time on the lesson for it? Or it aligns better with your brain works? Or you were in a good state?
It could actually be coincidental, because it’s 1 out of N items you’ll be seeing in the future.
WaniKani’s SRS has a couple of shorter stages for a reason. I don’t fully agree with it, but the SRS intervals are one of the last things one should tamper with .
I feel like the reason for getting it right doesn’t really matter (as long as I don’t cheat).
If its truly just luck I will fail next time the item comes around and it will decrease in rank as per usual.
But ultimately I don’t know. I came up with this because I felt like I’m breezing through vocab and somehow struggle with some kanji items. They are on different SRS timers, aren’t they?
