Two kanji to go. Interestingly, I had eight lessons this morning, but only one was related to the kanji I guru’d. The other seven were low level words. Presumably they did a new content update today, though it’s odd that they’d do it today since the previous ones all happened on Thursday.

I finally hit level 56 today. Ironically, it took exactly 50 reviews again, exactly the same as I did yesterday. Or rather, the last kanji came up around the 41st, but the session wrap-up button does ten more items before actually ending the session (so I normally always hit it after completing 90 reviews).
And then as usual, I did two more review sessions 4 and 12 hours later to get a head start on the new kanji, for a total of 250 reviews.

Wednesday night, I couldn’t sleep (due to being sick), so I got up in the middle of the night and watched Booktuber Belle videos for a while for old time’s sake, even though they’re still hard to follow.
I was surprised when I noticed her say “gyakutai” halfway through. I think she was talking about how having children changed her perspective on reading books and how it is now hard for her to read books where children get abused. It caught my attention because 虐待 is a word I’ve been struggling with on Wanikani recently, along with all the other 虐 words. I know they all mean some variation of “cruelty”, but it’s hard to remember which ones are which, which are just “cruelty” and which are “tyranny” or “abuse” or “atrocity”.
Ironically, 虐待 came up for review on Wanikani later that very morning:
