I’ve spent the last few months writing an app for learning how to write Kanji. I’m making it available for free to early adopters. Website - Download (Android) - iOS [image] FAQ - Is is free to keep? If you download it now, yes, you keep the full version for free forever. However, I plan to make it paid for non-early-adopters later. - Does it support Textbooks/Wanikani/etc? Yes, it supports various textbooks, as well as Wanikani. - Is there an iOS version? As of July 2022, yes!

[image] morteASD: How does it work, i.e how does it quiz you on the kanji? Only english keywords? Words, sentences? Check out the example images on the app page. Or, if you have an Android, try it out yourself - it’s free! [image] morteASD: What does textbook support mean? It determines which kanji to teach, and in what order. The assumption here is that Ringotan is not the only tool someone will use to learn Japanese, so I’ve designed it to work alongside other resources, including Wanikani. [image] morteASD: This picture seems to have Chinese encoding: Thanks! I’ve added a bug report here. However, as I’m not a kanji master myself yet, I don’t fully understand the problem. I think I’m using the same encodings as JMDict and KanjiDic, which should be exclusively Japanese. How can you tell it’s Chinese from the screenshot?

[image] whinette: The app crash when I clic on settings, or when I try to trace something. Please try updating to the latest version (v0.13.1). I wasn’t able to reproduce the issue, but thanks to your crash report I think I fixed the problem anyways.

[image] BlueRaja: Thanks! I’ve added a bug report here . However, as I’m not a kanji master myself yet, I don’t fully understand the problem. I think I’m using the same encodings as JMDict and KanjiDic, which should be exclusively Japanese. How can you tell it’s Chinese from the screenshot? Some characters are actually written differently in Japanese than they are in Chinese. In this screenshot for example, the top kanji is Chinese, while the bottom is Japanese [image]

I am able to open the settings! I don’t see how/where to change the number of kanji knew in the settings. There is also a theme issue: [Screenshot_20210601-170514] @BlueRaja

[image] BlueRaja: However, as I’m not a kanji master myself yet, I don’t fully understand the problem. For example using HTML, you have to specify the language so that the kanji is displayed correctly for the intended language: 直 = 直直 = 直絵 = 絵絵 = 絵

Quite a few examples in here [image] 直 = fix or? Kanji All of these pairs are considered by Unicode to be the same character but have different renderings in Chinese vs Japanese fonts. (I’m using vs here, so if your computer has both fonts available they should look different.) 八／八直／直約／約刃／刃骨／骨船／船令／令今／今悔／悔 There’s probably lots more I don’t know about, but I think 直 is the only one that is a little harder to to guess. (I stole this list from Kanji Fix’s screenshots - speaking of which, that app may…

I really enjoy this, thank you so much for sharing! どうもありがとうございます！

[image] whinette: There is also a theme issue: Fixed in v0.13.2. Link to ticket. Thanks for being such a great tester

I just did another review and could not reproduce the bug either. Will post a bug report if I encounter it again.

After review I pressed continue, and got a pretty weird session. The progress bar started with one green part, a lot of brightest yellow and a lot of black. During the reviews that followed, some lessons were also intertwined. The hints progressed nicely, but the progress bar didn’t change at all. At some point, I also kept getting the same old reviews over and over again. After stopping the session and restarting the lessons manually, the session went just fine, and it had also saved the progress of the weird session, so somewhere something is being saved at least
