Recommended Graded Reader level

Hello,

I’d like to buy some Todaku graded readers but I’m unsure where to start. I’m planning to get 3-4 books to start off.

I was hoping to get some advice from people who have perhaps used these books based on my current level.

I’m WaniKani level 16, I’ve completed Genki 1 and the N5. I’m currently studying towards the Japanese GCSE (UK) and N4. Thanks to WaniKani/KaniWani my reading has improved a lot but some of the advanced books are hard to follow and it’s easy to lose interest.

Based on this, can anyone recommend what level would allow me to read semi-comfortably while including some of the kanji from level 10+? Here’s a list of the books and their levels.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you click on the “About the levels” box you will get an overview for which level matches which JLPT level (grammar-wise). So, for you, Level 1 would make for a nice and easy read, while Level 2 would be the ramp-up to the next level.

Here is a page from a Level 2 reader so you can get an impression:

It’s the second page of the story, the first one can be found here: https://www.ask-books.com/jp/tadoku/level-2/ It’s in vol. 3, the story is called ソーピーの冬の家.

I completely missed that “About the levels” box…

Thank you very much for the swift response and the extract was a big help.

I think I’ll get all the level 2 books!
