Earlier this autumn, I reached 9999 vocab in my ‘Vocabulary I’ll Never Forget’ deck on JPDB (yay!). Turns out that’s max capacity for decks (ohno!). I thought I could move the words over to another deck and delete the words after, however, the way I did it wasn’t correct. Which means I unfortunately deleted the entire deck and all the vocab returned back in queue for reviewing.
I did consult the discord server and thankfully they had tips on what to do (scripts/tools), but I was just so frustrated (why no info in the FAQ about 10k cap? I never knew there was a cap on decks), I ended up leaving the site for a few months. I had the tools, but I was just too tired after manually getting (most of) the words back into my Never Forget deck again, I decided to put it off for later.
Long story short/TLDR; There’s a 10k cap on decks on JPDB. With the export script it is easy to export vocab from one deck and import them to another one.
- Make sure you have Tampermonkey and the export script installed.
- Make a new deck (I named mine Never Forget 2).
- Set the deck state override to ‘never forget’
- Export vocab from Never Forget deck.
- Open the new deck and import the vocab. Now the vocab won’t show up for review.
- Delete vocab from the original Never Forget deck. Then you can continue to use the k shortcut again to mark vocab as never forget during reviews.
NB! You’ll have to repeat the steps when you reach 10k again in your Never Forget. Just make another deck.
I hope this helps so people won’t make the same mistake I did.
