I finished book! Second one of the year for me. I don’t think I was the target audience. Tho I saw several reviews on bookmeter mentioning what I was thinking, that the book didn’t really make sense. Even so, it seems like they’re looking forward to the/a sequel. I’ll pass xD 2/5 stars. I did learn some new words tho, it didn’t hold back on the kanji.
I start new book:
・ 世界から猫が消えたなら || (0% → 24%) || page 54/221 ||
This book from 2012 got the Honya Taishou in 2013. Just 221 pages is not super long when it’s Natively level 27 so I hope I can finish it during the weekend. I still haven’t started Saikawa & Moe book club assignment yet, so hopefully I’ll get that done during the weekend too.
Had a really lazy day with lots of reading and WaniKani. Right now I am at a point where I start to question my ability to learn Japanese since there have been a lot of Kanji which I apparently forgot over the time I took a break.
I guess it’s natural, yet it’s frustrating.
But! Being able to (kinda) smoothly read Manga and Novels in Japanese has been so cool, I could have only dreamed of doing that two years ago. I don’t want to forget how far I have come, even if it’s easy to feel down by seeing how some people just seem to breeze through Japanese. We never know what went into that after all.
Let’s keep on keeping on and sorry for the rambling
On another note, I learned the word 文 庫 本 , which sounds extremely cute in my opinion. And it’s a pocket sized book, so it fits perfectly.
January 29th!
1 Chapter of シャドーハウス (Caught up the the club!)
January 30th!
1 Chapter of 鋼の錬金術師
January 31st!
Lots of reading today! 4 chapters of ひとりぼっちの○○生活 to finish off the first volume. I really wanted to like this one, but I never quite got into it. I keep trying to make myself enjoy 4-koma manga, but its just not the right format for me I guess…
I also read 2 chapters of からかい上手の 元 高木さん
Had a burst of motivation yesterday evening, because I wanted to try finishing watakon in January, but that was unrealistic . Made some good progress though!
I’m in the middle of adjusting my sleep schedule which resulted in me being rather tired today. I did several short sessions as I couldn’t focus for too long and managed to read an hour in total – I’m satisfied with today’s progress.
Lots of reading today! Mostly from コーヒーが冷めないうちに. I wasn’t planning to finish it today to start with, but as it went on after a while I thought I might have been able to get it done before tomorrow. However, I’m tired. I can’t be bothered to finish the last 30ish pages tonight, so I’ll do it tomorrow. 100 pages is great though!
As an aside, while reading some ノルウェイの森, I realised each page was taking me probably at least twice as long as from コーヒーが, so I decided to take a picture of a page from each. See for yourself!
(Page 1 is a fairly typical page from ノルウェイの森, given the density of prose and the lack of spacing for dialogue. Page 2 is lighter than most for コーヒーが, and a lot lighter than for some descriptive sections, but there’s still lots of pages with not much more text than this. Crazy difference! No wonder the former takes me like 2.5-3 minutes a page and the latter 1 minute! Even though ノルウェイの森 is 文庫本 and コーヒーが is 単行本!
And so, January is gone. This was the first time I had ever dedicated myself to actually reading something every day and I feel like I’ve improved a bit! While I did miss two days, I still feel like I did pretty well.

Had a busy day that was tainted by other stressors and ended up staying up until like 5:30am attempting to relax by playing bg3… Going to go to bed before then tonight for sure at least. Hopefully I’ll be asleep before 4am
