Re-reading pages 49-66 of 文豪. This chapter is super text heavy with lots of new words, so it’s definitely the most challenging of this series that I’ve read so far. Taking my time with it and adding lots to Anki!

昔、大分県の野津町（今の大分県臼杵市野津町）に、吉四六さんという男がいました。
This sentence is a bit hard because of all the names dumping, but it only says:
昔、大分県の野津町
A long time ago (昔), in the town Notsu of the prefecture Ooita (町 is town and 県 is prefecture, the other kanji are for the names of the town / prefecture).
（今の大分県臼杵市野津町）
今 is now, so nowadays that town is in the 市 (city) 臼杵,
吉四六さんという男
A man called M. Kicchomu
が
marks the man called 吉四六さん
いました
Past tense of いる, to be
I could continue to translate / explain each sentence but I feel like that would take a long time 
is there a specific sentence or page you need help with? Or do you want me to tell you the gist of the story?
A Samurai comes and wants to cross the river. M. Kicchomu says that it costs 8 “mon”. The samurai says that 8 mon is expensive and gives only 6 mon. Mucchomu-san brings him close to the other side but not quite on the bank and stops the boat there, saying that’s how far he can bring him for only 6 mon. Since the samurai doesn’t want to give 2 mon to continue, they turn around. Upon arriving back where they started, Mucchomu-san says, well that will cost 6 mon as well 
I never ended up using the tadoku-route, but I feel like this is quite hard material if you have no knowledge of grammar. It is a bit like Satori Reader, but at least in Satori Reader you have explanation on the sentences and translations of words + sentences, I have a hard time seeing how you are supposed to understand all of this text without looking anything up like they suggest 
If you continue with it, one good tool you can use to parse sentences is ichi.moe, example with the first sentence:

It was around page four that I got really confused. After that the rest didn’t make sense either. The gist really does help, since I hadn’t at all got the punchline of the story. Or even that there was a punchline to be got.
I read page 6, went to read page 7 which was credits, and then was all “but what happened to the story? did it just stop now with now the guy is asking people for 6 mon to cross? was the samurai teaching him that he’s supposed to charge less? But the samurai seemed like a bad guy what with the threatening and all? Since this samurai got away with only paying 6 mon does that mean the last page is another guy wanting to only pay 6 mon and it’s meant to be about how if you let one person off cheaper then everyone else will want the cheaper price? I AM CONFUSION”
Also, I’m not attempting to read the Tadoku books with zero grammar knowledge, that does sound quite insane 
Though congrats to anyone who can figure it out that way.

I’m back again! I’m still a bit lazy when it comes to updating regularly, but I still continue reading every day! Monday and yesterday where completely the same, as I read all four NHK Easy articles and two chapters of Markus’ Ascent every day. I didn’t post it, but I managed to finish the fourth part of the story before the end of the extended challenge! I will probably finish the rest of the story this month.
Anyway, I’ll keep my table from the previous challenge for now, but might change that when it gets really big.
On a side note, I also want to thank @Redglare for his very helpful post on custom sections in the last winter challenge. I only recently made the custom section, but it’s extremly helpful!

Ah yeah page 4 is where the critical thing happens

Unnatural English but kind of literal translation:
Already immediately arrive. (They are about to arrive)
At this instant, Kicchomu-san, the boat stops and says: (止めて is in the て form, linking to the next verb)
ここまでが６文です
Until here, it’s 6 mon
？
ここから向こうまで行くのに、あと２文足りません
From here until there in order to go, it is 2 mon not enough (a bit unsure how to translate あと here)
Then page 5:
向こうまで行けないなら、元の場所に戻れ
Until there we cannot go then, the point of origin let’s return
はい、わかりました
Yes, understood

3rd april
read two chapters and finished no.6 vol 3, which is the last one i have. only runs for 9 volumes, which either means the story has a lot simpler resolution than it looks or those last few volumes go at breakneck speed (or both). add it to the pile of things i’d like to get in digital and come back to it in like a year, i guess also read another thing from the renshuu book club, this comedic short story (pt 1, pt 2) about a murdered woman stuck in her own dead body as she watches the detectives bungle the investigation. not for me, i don’t think, tho the concept is interesting.
today’s nhk article was (half of) this one, plus the entries on ただ and ただの in aDoIJG

doesn’t she make a connection with the reaper with the halo (sally?)? could be reading it wrong, but to me it seemed from the last bit of dialogue that if she wanted she could visit when she liked, and sally said they might do the same. probably up to interpretation tho, cos we never see it

Also, it’s actually the third time that this has happened already, as you can see if you go through the first 8 edits. I just didn’t think about it as a bug, I thought that someone accidentally copy pasted a bit too much. It also happened when using the table editor btw (I wasn’t even aware that the table editor is a thing until now lol)

As voted on by y’all in my last post, I read these two things on my flight! Mostly 気になってる人が男じゃなかった, but also read to the end of the famous artist week in 366.
There’s still a lot of the day left, but I’m tired and I already read a ton so this is probably it for the day
