finally got around to this weeks renshuu book club challenge read, about a zombie who becomes a teacher. it was okay? felt a bit messy (especially towards the end) but it had heart, and that counts for smth! would love to know why the main character can fight so well tho. also tried this
which javerend recommended and this was really cute! only managed to read one chapter today but there’s two more free so hopefully they stay free in time for me to get to them thanks for recommending it!
today’s nhk articles were this one and this one, plus appendix 8 in aDoIJG which means i’ve finished the whole dictionary!
8000 characters from Island today. I just can’t put it down! Roughly the equivalent of 20 pages in a normal book. I would never read that much in a normal book, but this VN? No problem!
I have a page goal of 10 000 this year, so I’m keeping track of pages read. I’m at 39% to the goal. It’s a fun coincidence that today happens to be the day when we’re 39% through the year as well. So that means I’m right on track, mwahaha
Flew home on Monday and had a couple of days off. I was still quite tired after Covid but I think managed to read quite well.
I’ve finished last week mostly up to date. I’m exactly two weeks behind on the intermediate dictionary (still), and started reading Kiki late so am about a week and a half behind.
I’m currently down to 9 book clubs after finishing とんがり帽子 a week early, and there’s a short break before volume 2. I’m trying to resist reading on ahead of the club - I think I need to finish a few other things first!
There’s a encyclopedia/journal thing you keep in Little Witch in the Woods that keeps track of all the animals and plants and recipes. They have a ranking system where if you collect certain amounts you rank up and get some new perks - use this potion 5 times to increase it’s sell value, etc. I spent some time working on filling that out today.
Also today my hat is explaining the difference between パースニップ and 大根. That’s going to make me hungry.
Rereading with lookups is not quite so enjoyable, maybe once I finish this story I’ll adopt some kind of lighter lookups strategy for the next stories.
I finished アステリズムに花束を 百合SFアンソロジー this week - it’s the hardest book I’ve read so far (and I confess I skept a few parts I didn’t really understand/enjoy) but I’m happy to have reached the end! Otherwise, I’m a bit delayed in some bookclubs since I was focusing on finishing this book (and it overlapped with the beginning of Kiki’s bookclub), but I’m hoping to catch up during the upcoming week.
And we’re almost in June, already. I’ll only update until the end of May, since I’m gone almost the whole month for vacation next month (I will be taking my books, but I expect a much less regular reading routine… with a lot of reading during the long flight!)
I’m only counting printed book pages in my spreadsheet Since I reached 9000 pages and 27 books last year, I figured why not go for 10 000 pages and 30 books this year.
Now that I’m graduating uni and I’m going to have a full-time job starting next month, my free time as a student is bye-bye, so I wonder if I can reach my goal. Work is probably going to be super tiring until I get used to it.
I get that too for the harder stories, once I start lookups something keeps me going and it’s not as enjoyable. One way I’ve kept a reread with lookups enjoyable is to restrict them to just the first two pages (scene setting), the purchase (normally some funny business there), and occasionally the ending if I think there is more nuance to uncover. That way the lookups are concentrated where I’m most curious and the story is most interesting! And it’s amazing how much easier it makes the rest anyway. For the rest, I have not found lookups to be particularly interesting.
It was a bit of a struggle to find the time but read another chapter of ダン飯7, nearly done with this vol (and nearly done with the anime, I think; it will probably take us to early vol 8. Will decide what to do then - i think two chapters a week works pretty well tbh)
