This week I finished the Anki deck for 1500 Essential Vocabulary for the JLPT N4, and opted to keep going with the N3 book. At the moment, I feel like it’s more efficient for me than mining from native materials (as long as I keep reading regularly).

  • ノーコン = no control. From poor control over throwing a baseball.
  • 高分子(こうぶんし) = polymer; macromolecule. 分子(ぶんし) is a molecule.
  • 標榜(ひょうぼう) = standing for; claiming (oneself) to be
  • 風雲児(ふううんじ) = soldier of fortune; a hero/person getting spectacular during troubled times
  • 沃野(よくや) = fertile plains
  • 曲尺(かねじゃく) = carpenter’s square, for measuring (物差(ものさ)し). Also written 矩尺(かねじゃく). Like 差(さ)し金(がね). First Kanji doesn’t look like what it should be.
  • ぐい飲(の)み = a large sake cup. First part feels like onomatopoeia (ぐいぐい).
  • 美点(びてん) = virtue; charm; good point
  • 新進気鋭(しんしんきえい) = promising energetic newcomer
  • 納会(のうかい) = year-end party / parting party

Last weekend I realized that I could still reach my month’s goal (10 volumes of manga) if I concentrate on the easy manga. So I put aside all my book clubs except 月刊少女野崎くん.

22.04 月刊少女野崎くん (10) chapter 93

24.04 finished 雨と君と (1) and ふらいんぐうぃっち (2)
25.04 started ふらいんぐうぃっち (3)
26.04 73 pages of ふらいんぐうぃっち (3)
27.04 finished ふらいんぐうぃっち (3) and started (4)
28.04 finished 黄泉のツガイ (4)

So I have 2 days left and 2.5 volumes of ふらいんぐうぃっち to read. We’ll see.

Back to Island I go! 2000 characters today. Plus one chapter from Flying witch volume 2. I discovered today that volume 13 will be out this summer. Wonder if I can manage to read volumes 2-12 before 13 is released!

:blossom: Week 4 update :cherry_blossom:

This week was Satori-week. I’ve finished to read the 9 episodes of the Spring short stories (it feels refreshing to read something easier for once) and the 37 first episodes of 壁の穴. This is such a great story, I really want to know what happens next, and it’s very useful to learn some cultural things about life in Japan (things like 仏壇 or 下駄箱).

There a lot of funny and very sad moments all in once, the voice acting is great (very important because when the actors have an annoying voice, it’s hard to listen to). Maybe I’m too sensitive but there was a moment in episode 2 that particularly touched me, I won’t do any spoilers but something about running while crying, very hard and sad scene. I didn’t expect to get attached so quickly to the characters and story.

Other than that, I’ve got my level 15 on WK and translated a few poems.

First few days of holiday reading have gone well. I’ve finally caught up with Spy Family, which I’ve been one week behind on for ages, and had no trouble finishing the week’s reading of とんがり帽子のアトリエ (not reading ahead was the main problem).

Book wise, I finished ふしぎ駄菓子屋, so now I need to catch up with the other two, which I’m still quite behind on. My remaining manga are all also behind, but also relatively easy reads, so shouldn’t be an issue.

Week 4 update for the Spring Reading Challenge

April 22 - 28

What I read for Week 4:

  • 5 episodes of the Jammaker on Satorireader (ep 10 - 14)
  • 2 weeks of Little Granny Hinata-chan with the ABBC (Week 6 & 7)
  • 1 episode of Spanish for False Beginners podcast transcript
  • 1 article from Hola Que Pasa Easy news

Read everyday in Japanese, but only ready 2 out of 7 days in Spanish. Definitely need to increase the days I read Spanish… But I’m not satisfied with the content I’m finding. My Japanese reading is also only 1 episode or 1 week of something everyday, which I feel I could also increase. Maybe reading more 2 episodes per day or something… Everyone’s reading progress and tracking on here is amazing though! When I read through the everyday updates I feel disappointed at myself at the same time inspired! So thanks to everyone doing just that for giving me the push.

At least I’m caught up with the ABBC which I’m happy about! :grin:

29th april

taking a break between books (planning to do 探偵(たんてい)ガリレオ next) and filling it with random manga, went with スクールゾーン which is a comedy manga about a school full of disaster yuri girls and how they spend their days. feels like a ‘your mileage may vary’ kind of manga (none of the main characters are really likeable, except 八手(やつで)) but fills the time and the short episode format is convenient. read about 80 pages before giving up and doing smth else.

today’s nhk articles were a skim read of this one plus this one in more depth (quite a few new words), and the entries on とは限(かぎ)らない and つまり in aDoIJG

words that stood out

スクール：
仰(あお)げば尊(とうと)し - a song that is (used to be?) sung at graduation ceremonies
ガセネタ - faked information, disinformation
便意(べんい) - urge to go to the toilet, call of nature.
