Today I read another 3000 characters from the VN Island. I found a few sentences that I was able to read by myself, without any dictionary. Just a handful of sentences, but I’ll take the small victories that I get!
Today was one of those epic days, where things just click, and I can feel how much progress I’ve made with my Japanese! Got this realization while reading ISLAND, after I realized that I wasn’t translating / looking up any meaning or reading for a several minutes but just actually reading!
I only managed to squeeze in about 10 minutes of reading today. I really need to go to sleep soon because I worked a night shift last night, and I’m already sleep deprived.

Told you guys I wanted to read something else on the side – I started a new book before I went to sleep last night. The main characters seem really cool, female lead is a strong-spirited one. Father-in-law yabaindakedo, DV tte yatsu Yoku nai yo.
First month completed! Not a day missed! Admittedly, my challenge is pretty micro, but at least I’m using my Satori Reader subscription everyday. Thrilled! Thanks again @DIO-Berry for organising.
Today was manga book club day, as I finished out week 2 of the とんがり帽子のアトリエ IMC club, and week 2 (and 3… ooops) of the 葬送のフリーレン BBC book club, finishing up chapter 1 in both cases.
Have been reading the last couple days but haven’t felt like updating. Also reading the next story of fushigi sweet shop with no lookups, seeing where my comprehension is at. Will probably go back over it with lookups afterwards.
Chapter of Yuru Camp 2 this morning in between many other things. I’m finding it difficult to accept that I can’t just speed through this, it feels like it should be easier to read than it is, if that makes any sense… still, taking it a bit at a time is entirely in line with its general ethos, so I suppose it’s fine.
I’m with you on that one. Skimming through my almost daily logs it’s clear I’m still not truly reading, but rather getting acquainted with simple Japanese sentences. Nevertheless it’s surprisingly gratifying to be able to follow a story on Tadoku or Satori with the audio and guess the overall meaning. I’ve found that the experience is far more enjoyable if I don’t get hung up on trying to fully understand every word, but focus on spotting the few words that I know. Illustrations help too.

read the rest of スクールゾーン and ehhhh it has its moments. the artist’s note says クセのつよい女の子たちの百合が好きです which about sums it up. was kind of tricky in places cos there were references to things i didn’t have cultural context for (and also comedy is hard)

April is over. I managed to squeeze two volumes of easy manga into the last two days (thanks to holidays):
29.04 finished Flying witch vol. 5
30.04 Flying witch vol. 6
So my month’s goal is reached.
Measuring speed, I spent about 2,5 hours on 6-th volume of Flying witch (around 20th level), and my understanding wasn’t ideal - I was too rushed/lazy to look up words sometimes, so if I got the gist I moved on.
I really hope to read more leisurely next month but considering the amount of book clubs I want to follow it’s not realistic at my level I guess.
Anyway, next - book clubs read!
