I can’t wait until I’m up to reading multiple Japanese books and manga. I guess I should study more grammar tonight…
you’ll get there. at the start of 2023 reading ふらいんぐういっち felt like hammering my brain with an ice pick
This has definitely made some scenes hit a lot harder when they take longer. There was a description of finding someone was dead in セーラー服と機関銃 that felt similar a few weeks back

read the renshuu harder book club pick, which was a long but not too challenging read about two women and aromanticism and asexuality. got a little worried about where it was going halfway through but was unfounded, liked this one a fair bit. also started すきまのおともだちたち! turning out a bit trickier than i thought cos there’s limited furigana and quite a few new words, but the actual style itself is very easy to follow so far imo. seems like a talking plate is going to drive a car, so we’ll see how that goes
today’s nhk article was this one, and the entries on と and と同時に in aDoIJG (both quite long).
手提げ - handbag, hand basket
お待ちどおさま - i’m sorry to have kept you waiting
物慣れる - to become skillful (usu. past tense, meaning skilled, experienced, etc.)
言下 - promptly. jp definition clarifies as 相手が言い終わったすぐあと。言い終わるか終わらないうち
That’s volume 2 down. I wonder how long it’ll be before daily reading is as habitual as WK reviews. So far, it still takes the extra motivation/accountability of logging my progress here

The benefit of reading one book is that while there are tons of vocab to look up, they do get repeated, and I get used to seeing them.

April 11th!
I started volume 2 of the Orange Light Novel today - hopefully it doesn’t take me as long to read as the first volume did

It’s going forward, even if slow. I probably read the same sentence 20 times on the way back home on the train. 疲れたわぁ
Ah Nicole, this is such a nice message to receive, thank you~ I’ll make sure to share my thoughts!

Today I read the first half of chapter 3 of Christmas Tina - about 4000 characters. I find it easier than Island and I really enjoy it. Looking forward to when I can read something and not look up several words in each sentence though!

Finished up the manga portion of volume 7 of 本好きの下剋上。Just the short story chapter left and that’s the end of the part 1 manga!
All these volumes of the manga have a bonus chapter that isn’t numbered, but I’ve been numbering as X.5, which is a common enough pattern that I think people have mostly understood. This came to bite me a bit in this volume though, which includes both a chapter that the volume labels 33.5, and an additional unnumbered bonus chapter, which I’m just going to call 33.75. I guess I’d have to label the short story 33.90 or something then, but luckily I haven’t been in the habit of numbering them as I call them out separately as they mess up my reading speed stats so want to highlight them lol.
The title of the short story does gel surprisingly well with some of my current vocab on Wanikani, going to be reading about an 跡継ぎ。There was some fortuitous alignment of vocab I was learning earlier in Log Horizon too Last time I had this much lining up was in like level 15 where I was still learning basic stuff like 変化。

I like when it happens !
When I began to read 薬屋のひとりごと volume 11, I was just learning all vocab about poison and medecine on WK, it was perfect timing too ^^
And before, when I began to watch Chihayafuru, I was learning all the match, win and loser stuff, it was also just on time
It’s also frustrating sometimes when the opposite happens I got to all the smoking vocab in Wanikani when I was 6 weeks into スーパーの後でや二級うふたり

Whew, this book is so much easier than HP. It’s nice to have reading material of different levels for sure.
This has definitely made some scenes hit a lot harder when they take longer.
I feel this for manga especially, since I read it so fast in English that it just whizzes by. In Japanese I feel like scenes have more impact and I have more time to look at the art.
