I’m back, and yes I’m still reading Yu-Gi-Oh! Last challenge was absolutely transformative to my studies, and if anyone’s lurking in this thread and hasn’t jumped in yet, just do it! Immersion is quite possibly the most critical element in learning a language, and accountability can make it so much easier.
Goals
Pass Take the JLPT N3 (I changed this because I realized I won’t get the results during the scope of the challenge anyway)
Maintain a streak on Bunpro
Keep up with the Final Fantasy 1 Beginner Club (I’m having so much fun with that game that this goal’s basically a freebie)
Reach the Battle City arc of 遊☆戯☆王
Pass the JLPT N3 (I put it twice because I’m laser focused on that goal right now)
Read every day!
I’m going to play this challenge a bit differently from the last one. I found the daily updates to be pretty onerous after the initial habit-forming stage, so I’m just going to stick to updating my progress on Natively and occasionally (maybe monthly?) posting cumulative progress here. If I go back to doing daily updates here, then you’ll know that that strategy didn’t work out, haha.

Eleventh time participating! I ended up reading pretty much nothing last season (like always :c) so I want to change that. No more excuses for me…
my plans
Just reading everyday until the end of this year. In the meantime I’ll be preparing for the JLPT in December too. This is my last year in uni (which has nothing to do with Japanese) but I’d like to do my Master’s in Japan and hopefully stay there.
I’ll use my standart format which I write a sentence or two in Japanese about the progress on the novel I read that day so that might help you get some reading even when you’re scrolling here.

Finished book before I fell asleep from food coma + was unusually tired after work today. But good start to the reading challenge :3 Moving on to the next book in the series. Woke up for a bit (I don’t usually post at 3am), reading prologue before going back to sleep.

I don’t have a book lined up yet, I’m thinking of joining the children’s novel bookclub which starts at the end of next week. I’m not great at sticking to a habit so this will be a real challenge for me. I want to commit to at least ten minutes reading a day.

I almost finished the previous week! And luckily the current week is twice as short, so I have all chances catching up very soon. With this book club at least 
BTW, I noticed, that in this book I rarely need to translate the whole sentences. Either there is no complicated grammar, or my overall comprehension is better now.

nhk updated to its new nhk one service and navigating the site is kind of worse in every way ngl so i’m going back through the articles and whatnot i have saved in my ‘reading for later’. today’s was a gendai interview with an x-gender mangaka
October 2nd, a couple of pages from the desert survival book. Reading a paper book feels strange after reading so much on a screen lately. I forget how convenient it is to change font size and look up directly from the screen!

We have a JoJo Book Club if you’re interested in reading in Japanese.
On Natively, it ranges from level 25-30. I don’t think I’d recommend it as a first manga unless you’re using the club notes and vocab (I still need to backfill Part 1 and catch up with Part 2). I’d rank the Parts from easiest to hardest as
- Phantom Blood (it’s mostly narration that’s difficult and several characters use textbook type Japanese)
- Stardust Crusaders (less flavor-text weirdo screen time)
- STEEL BALL RUN (some explanations are difficult)
- Golden Wind
- Diamond is Unbreakable (most of the teens speak in an accented way)
- Battle Tendency (Joseph speaks in an accented way and doesn’t always mean what he says)
As for 6/8, I’m not very far into Part 6 yet sorry and Part 8, I haven’t gotten into them quite yet
