Decided I would extensively try reading the new Japanese history manga I got because some people wonder what it is like and I won’t truly get to it for a long while.
Well, I did spend some time on the opening pages with a dictionary so I would have some of the overall info before its starts into the actual manga portion. When next I pick it up, I’ll get actual manga so that will be easier. Starting on volume 1 so it covers paleolith to Kofun (500 CE/AD). I’ll check out the last volume (16, heisei to reiwa (2021 or so) is that even history anymore? ) too before giving some kind of opinion.
@pm215 Thanks for the tips! I’ll keep my eye out for those matches.
The sound of waves makes so much sense seeing as there’s water everywhere in ARIA! And 擬音語 seems like a useful term that I’ll use next time I’m googling about an onomatopoeia. Thank you!
As usual, two more chapters from Aryn’s rescue! This means I have now finished 18 out of 24 chapters, or 75%. I’ll probably finish it this week, then I will continue with the next story of the TWC
I did read more today for once. I feel like I say it a lot but it rarely becomes true. Both a few more pages of the history manga, but mainly accidentally read the rest of volume 4 of the hotel manga. So good.
Have to wait for half a year for the last volume. Definitely think the hanging story threads can be wrapped up in one volume, but I’ll be so sad it is over. Very wholesome while also tackling very serious topics. Some found family stuff too! Definitely my favorite thing I have read in Japanese. Orange and Whisper of the Heart taking second and third place, probably in that order. (Alice 19th doesn’t count for this because I read and fell in love with it in English.)
Today was a good day. First of all, I caught up with both the BBC and ABBC book clubs for this week, which took not very much time at all. But more importantly, I made a ton of progress on 本好きの下剋上 - including the first day I read 2 chapters at once, the longest chapter I’ve read so far and the fastest chapter I’ve read so far (at 0.35 pages/minute, so still very slow, but it’s progress!). Helped by my extra day off, so don’t expect this much every day In fact, expect generally less this week as I’m away this weekend. I do still intend to read every day, but I may not update this thread every day.
Finished the week’s reading (and story 1) for 不思議駄菓子屋. Really enjoyed that I was able to get through this week’s section relatively quickly with decent understanding (though it was short).
I’ve added too many books to my library recently and the excitement to read a page or two from all of them has stretched my reading time thin I need to focus on the books I’ve already started and pretend the other ones don’t exist (for now) ahaha
So I was wrong yesterday and I forgot to read seasons lol. So I read 2 pages last night. 2/5 was about lemons and 2/6 was about nori. Both are best harvested in winter. Or at least lemons are during the Mediterranean’s winter.
JoJo was fun. I always like seeing the college version of Dio.
Smoking was fun too. I ended up reading 2 chapters. It had a hella cute moment.
Monday and Tuesday were spent reading through the Dialogs: Hotel on Satorireader. Since I’m preparing for a trip to Japan next month, I thought it would be useful to go through that.
Something silly I kept doing was reading 本日 as 日本 though. In my mind, it would just register as Japan and I’m like, why are they suddenly referring to Japan in this sentence. And then later I read the translation, and I’m like, get your head together, alygator!
another ouran chapter, and a good one! my boy kasanoda briefly came back too. intended to only read one or two chapters of 獣の奏者 but ended up reading more like five, they were all much shorter than the first two and i’m into the rhythm of it now! just one(?) left now i think. about ten more pages of the bakumatsu book, plus translated another entry (which was only one page rather than the usual double page spread)
today’s nhk article was this one plus about a third of this one before i got bored (if you want food words, this is the one for you!), and the entries on を通して and っぱなし in aDoIJG. didn’t do any granblue, probably won’t until the valentine’s day stuff starts coming out, i’ll use the time for listening practice instead.
wait i forgot i had a question
any idea what this is? 色々な感情が◯いていく音 for the ◯ is that 引? sorry it’s blurry, it’s small text and my hands don’t work super well
I’m wondering if it’s like being able to read jumbled words in English with the same first and last letter. I just found out now that they named it Typoglycaemia.
I wanted to take it as a positive earlier as if I’ve advanced that much for that to be happening to me already, but then I realized it’s probably just me being lazy and not paying attention enough.
2月4日 逆転裁判4 (Case 2 Investigation)
2月5日 Read Real Japanese Essay 無情ということ(平野啓一郎)pg. 94-107
逆転裁判4 has been so fun. I haven’t played the game since it came out in English in 2008 (?!), so everything feels super new, but is also vaguely familiar enough that I can get by in Japanese without worrying about missing major plot points. The vocal tics are hard to understand though, and don’t get me started on the kanji for character names.
「無情ということ」felt so much harder than the previous 2 essays in this book. The author uses a lot of kanji and a difficult vocabulary. I found myself having to go back and reread a lot of the sentences multiple times. Only one essay left in this book, but I might take a break and read something else before coming back to it.
