Today I read chapter 64 of Shadow’s House.
I swear this series is more difficult to read than it was at the start! I don’t remember the first few volumes being too difficult, but recently it’s feeling like a bit of a slog to read. Very dense text, and lots of stuff to look up!

I’m still enjoying it though

Yeah so uh I didn’t actually get that much reading done because I started watching 彼方のアストラ and got sucked into it. I ended up watching all 12 eps pretty much back to back. It’s so good.

Okay so until now I’d thought that the town got sucked into the world of the book that was stolen, and the version that Mifuyu read didn’t actually exist, at least not there—it was a remnant left behind by the curse. After all, it was Mashiro who handed the books to her, and she only exists when the curse is in effect. She doesn’t exist in the real world.

But then when Mashiro handed her『人ぎらいの街』after Mifuyu had Haruta steal『さよならの値打ちもない』I realized that we never actually saw the title of the book when Mifuyu recovered it, except for last chapter when Haruta handed her the book he’d stolen and she actually took a look at it. This whole time, it was always that they’d get sucked into the world of a different book. I don’t know if it was just me not fully understanding, or if it really wasn’t clear until now.

So that’s my theory about why the town is still affected by the curse out the window, then. Maybe it has to do with how long Mifuyu took, and everyone’s transformation into foxes being complete? In the first two chapters, it never got that far. Well, the only way to find out is to continue reading! Augh, I wish I could read faster, or that there were more hours in the day. Or both. I’d love both.

Going into the new reading week, I’m up to date on 3 clubs, and 2 weeks behind on 2. Plus I haven’t finished the last IBC book, but only have 1,5 chapters to go.

I leave on Monday evening for a 3 week trip overseas, on a tour of Egypt and Jordan, but with a lot of travel time each way. I’m hoping I’ll catch up on the flights, but I’m unsure how I’ll go while actually on the tour.

My plan is not to stress too much about the book clubs, but keep reading small amounts when I can. Then I’ll do my best to catch up on Monday and Tuesday.

I’ve fallen off the regular reading horse quite a bit in the last two weeks (also had two missed days last week), I’ve also had loads of extra book club duties, partly because I can’t seem to stop starting new book clubs… Oops? xD

Main club duties for VN club is over for now, and who knows who’ll do it next time. Orange has next to last chapter next week!!! B$ duties might ramp up this week (and then mostly die except for posting a link every now and then) if I go ahead and post all the threads ahead of time like someone requested (polls, always there are polls xD). The Dictionary of Basic Japanese Grammar will start being read next Saturday (not tomorrow). And lastly, Ouran High School Host Club book club looks like it’ll start late May or late June, so nothing to do there for a while except I can put together the schedule after I close the reading pace poll after a week.

I guess I was doing 5 at the same time for a while there, and I could have waited with the Ouran one but eh, I was impatient so.

Anyway, on to talking about my reading instead of my silliness with book clubs!

I’m rereading The War of Art by Steven Pressfield, that is the nonfiction. I’m reading the fantasy anthology Heart/Hearth something or other (I think it was called), but I don’t think I’ll be buying any more anthologies edited by these editors because their taste in story don’t seem to align with mine. I basically read the opening few pages of like 3-4 stories before I got to one that actually pulled me in and all the way through. Of course, I only bought the anthology for one story, which I’ve reread multiple times already, so even just reading 1-2 more stories in the volume would be a plus, I guess.

And then I finally started Shuu’s path on Bustafellows. Already loving it. ^^

Today’s seasons was about the spring and fall equinoxes and some wagashi.

The new JoJo chapter has me reeling. I appreciate that it seems like we’re being given the genre pretty early. A heist story feels like something Araki hasn’t done yet, but is still interesting and exciting. Of course, he could always change the genre later, and I’m delighted to see what happens next. I feel like in this chapter we also get some hints at how “Dio” fits with Jodio. I can’t believe that Araki is actually having a character be called out on a medical level for being a psychopath. It’ll be interesting to see where that goes. Also, Rohan!!!

I almost started reading the new Crazy Diamond chapter last night, but I flipped through it and it looked like more bullshit that ignores establish canon. Although, Hol Horse in danger is fun.

Planning on hopefully finishing vol 10 of JoJo this weekend.
