But why is the brush disliked? Every cat I’ve met has loved getting brushed.

Some cats can experience overstimulation, especially if they have arthritis or weren’t socialized to touch much when younger. Wire brushes like that can provide a lot of stimulation at once.

When I volunteered at a cat shelter, we had a lot of cats that would get overstimulated easily (stress doesn’t help). I think to get around that, we used smaller brushes or ones with less teeth and only 1-2 strokes with plenty of rest in between. If a cat got matted, they had to clipped or shaved.

You are indeed correct.

I haven’t seen it appear as 「るっさい」 myself, but I’ve encountered 「うるっさい」, 「うっさい」, 「うざい」, and at least one other form I can’t recall offhand.

I actually felt kinda sad when I couldn’t read it on Saturday, and on Sunday when I couldn’t read as much of it as I would’ve liked I also feel like the reading’s been a bit more easy-going compared to one or two volumes ago, when there were slightly more specialized words.

U-wah! I can’t believe I forgot to mark natsuyuu 1 as finished! (Actually, no, yes, I can.) That was 16 days ago…

• thru pg 24 of 風の谷のナウシカ vol 3. This manga is sooo hard to follow sometimes. The art, particularly the scenery/backgrounds, may be beautiful, but the action scenes… My brain checks out from some of the political convos too, especially when a bunch of words I don’t know get dropped. The first volume wasn’t so bad, but this one’s kinda giving me a headache. Also, Kurotowa remains as punchable as always.
• 元ヤンパパとヒツジ先生 and 元ヤンパパとヒツジ先生 陽だまり (admittedly I just read these two today to get my total volume count this month up to 10, but gosh, they’re so cute~)
• 4 pages of ガールズ・ブルー, leaving off on pg 74
• 7 pages of 君の声は魔法, reading ch 1 and leaving off on pg 17. I have. a bit of a bad feeling about this one from the excerpt included on the color illustration at the front, but uh, we’ll see. I don’t exactly have high hopes, but fingers crossed.

I possibly did the least reading this month since I began doing these challenges, but I still read every day! I read (finished) 6 volumes of manga and 4 novels, with an average of 63 pages read per day.

I read the Jam story on Satori Reader for an hour today. This started as a boring jam story and has since evolved into such a touching and dramatic story that I am utterly surprised but pleased.

I only finished one book (and one very short story) in July, but all books I was reading were started this month, apart from あん, of which I had only read about 14 pages in June. I also missed a lot of days due to travelling. My average pages per day was 18, or 22 if we don’t calculate the zero-page days.

July was also a new low score in 2023, but with so many missed days it was only to be expected:

Going forward, I’m taking part in 4 book clubs in August (and beyond), and with more travelling in the plans I should probably not add anything more to the mix. But I’m finding that summer really is the time for spooky stories for me, so I’m very much tempted to start yet another book (and probably one I don’t already have ).

went back to 逆転検事(ぎゃくてんけんじ)２ today and did another section and tho there were a few rough bits (including another word mistake from debeste that gave me the run around for a while and then had the gall to be explained out of nowhere in-game like 20 minutes later) but on the whole pretty good. there were a few bits that made me laugh out loud.

today’s nhk (easy) articles were these two which then led me to this psa song thingy on not going out into the water after washed away sandals which i’ve had stuck in my head ever since. today’s fate episode was ヘルナル’s summer one which seemed to end very abruptly? not even on a cliffhanger it just kind of, stopped watched some more y4 too, i’m hoping to finish tanimura’s section today.

I haven’t posted in a while but still reading every day! Normally I am reading a VN on the side while participating in the VN club but since I’m in two now, adding a third VN sounds like it’d take up too much time to the point I’m not sure if I’d make enough progress on it for it to be worth it. So instead of reading a VN, I’ve been catching up on manga and Idolmaster Shiny Colors recently.

Shiny is doing a collab with Oshi no Ko so I read the first volume of that to understand the basic premise of that series. The collab in Shiny lets you produce Kana and Ruby, there’s also a Memちょ support and a battle of the bands type scenario with B小町 going up against Straylight.
For now I’m just reading Kana’s story but its very nice! Basically the premise for their individual story is that there is a big idol event coming up so the girls from 苺プロ are coming to 283プロ for the next few months to train for the event since they’re experienced with it. I plan on reading the other scenarios later but this one is nice so far.

There is also a morning commu with Kana where you talk about ピーマン that is pretty funny. Asking about the song pisses her off, of course

Not sure I will read more today, but I did read the first two に entries in the dictionary (there are 7 of them), and a few pages of Ouran. I keep being surprised how much harder Ouran is than I expect a high school manga to be. But, if I keep reading a bit every day, I can catch up and then I can see about catching up with Konbini.

Would be nice.

Also, noticed that reading two volumes of Flying Witch in July (it was nice to actually finish something and have an easy time of it) got be back on track with my manga goal, even if I’m pretty behind on all the other goals. ^^

Words of the day

• こよなく = extremely; very much. From something like 超(こ)えない.
• ～もへったくれもない(.) = to hell with it (those things have no value)
• 類推(るいすい) = analogy; analogical inference
• ポン引(び)き = a con man / a pimp
• 素気(すげ)ない = blunt. Probably just a variant of 素(そ)っ気(け)ない.
• 寝入(ねい)る = to go to sleep / to be deep asleep
• 陶磁器(とうじき) = pottery = 陶器(とうき)と磁器(じき)
• 物憂(ものう)い = gloomy; melancholic
• 棺桶(かんおけ) = coffin. First Kanji is 棺(ひつぎ), which I somehow often confuse with 羊(ひつじ). Second Kanji is 桶(おけ) (= a bucket / a tub).
• 具申(ぐしん) = offering full report to a superior. 具合(ぐあい)を申(もう)す, perhaps.
• 土建(どけん) = civil engineering and construction = 土木(どぼく)と建築(けんちく)
