📚📚 Read every day challenge - Summer 2021 🏖🏖

Yesterday I first read the first chapter of a manga but it was really gruesome so I will refrain from mentioning the title. I don’t like violent and gruesome manga I prefer cute positive manga.

After that I read the first 30 pages of それでも彼らは嘘をつく. That seems to be a romantic manga.

Today my book order arrived. I want to finish reading everything in the picture until the end of next year.

Forbidden Scrollery(3), 3 more pages quite heavy on dialog about youkai of different levels of spookiness. 送り拍子木 was referenced.

Day 39
August 3

  • 文豪ストレイドッグス21 (ch90, ½ ch91)
  • 不可解なぼくのすべてを5 (¾ ch23)

Cool achievement :sparkles:

For me main problem with timed goals is that my efficiency is highly dependent on my mood and I’m absolutely unable to predict how my future mood will be. And the disparity in how much I can achieve is just so large, it’s frustrating, because I love plans.

Now I’m curiouuus :musical_score:

Okay if I you really want to know. 黒い瞳は赤に染まる-Snow White

To something more pleasant, I read 55 more pages of the first volume of それでも彼らは嘘をつく manga. A really cute school romance manga, this one I can definitely recommend. The manga is not that easy but still fun to read.

Satori Reader: Secret, Episode 19.

Didn’t feel like reading today at all, but I’m stubborn to complete the 75 days. I don’t even know why, I could’ve let today slip, but part of me knows that if I give in one day, it will be really hard not to give in the following days. Once I fail, I’m prone to failing repeatedly afterwards. I’m so sleepy tho.

Day 65: August 4th
What did I read?: ねこねこ日本史でよくわかる 日本のお城
How much did I read?: 6 pages
How long did it take me?: 1 hour 12 min

I was in a weird mood today, and I kind of wanted to read something that would even out my emotions rather than potentially disturb them even more. So I decided to read about castles instead of continuing 君には届かない xD

If you are wondering why the heck it took me over an hour to read 6 pages, it is because this book has a) bigger pages than your average Japanese book and b) a lot of words/info on each page. It has some nice pictures though! And all in color. I think it’s meant to be a kid’s nonfiction/educational book (like, what are those kinds of books called…I used to read these types of books all the time when I was younger. Kind of like Eyewitness books, I guess, only with more cartoon cats). But I like it so far, I’m not that knowledgeable about Japanese history so it’s interesting.

I also learned a great word, 豆知識 (まめちしき) - trivia (but literally a bean of knowledge, why is that so cute ) Also, I forgot to include this one from yesterday, but I love this word too: 上の空 (うわのそら) - inattention; absent-mindedness.

I started a new book today, 深夜特急!It’s a series of true travel stories, the first one being in India. It’s not easy to read, but I’m letting myself take it easy by reading slowly. :notes:

Summary

I’ve only had time to read for 20-30mins a day the last few days so just slowly progressing through NO. 6. Finished chapter 3 (out of 5) today - I think the issue with this being a fairly long light novel series is that it very much feels like it’s still just getting started even though I’m now over 60% of the way through. Guess I’ll just have to read all 9 haha.

Day 40
August 4

  • 文豪ストレイドッグス21 (2/2 ch91, 1/2 ch92)

It seems niche (all google results are stores, nothing describing the series itself) and the preview didn’t show much, but thanks for quenching my curiosity :upside_down_face: I was wondering if it’s something I’ve heard about, but apparently not

After I bought it on that sale (? it looks like the price is still ¥99) I was pleased to discover it has relatively low loc count on Kindle, but it’s also true that it’s just one volume of the series :stuck_out_tongue:

Haha yeah, I’ll be interested to see how I feel once in finished it, if it feels like I’ve read a full book or just part of one. It definitely doesn’t feel like more than half way through at the moment - but I’ve also heard a few people saying that in general the pacing is different in Japanese novels so I guess that could also be it.

What did I read?: 君には届かない Vol 2
How much did I read?: 117 pages (3 chapters plus some extras - finished the volume)
How long did it take me?: 2 hours 36 min

Aww, these sweetie pies <3 They both overthink things so much (I say as if I’m not also the world’s worst overthinker :eyes:) Honestly though I think it’s really sweet that they both value their friendship so much that they’re both scared of doing anything that might jeopardize it. The little extras at the end were super cute :3

Day 41
August 5

  • 文豪ストレイドッグス21 (1/2 ch92 → 3/4 ch92) (it was a really thick fragment)
  • 乙女ゲームの破滅フラグしかない悪役令嬢に転生してしまった…5 (62% → 64%)

I think I still read too little to have a strong opinion on this, but do you mean the “Japanese fiction is slower” version or “the important stuff happens in different places” version?

I finished the first volume of それでも彼らは嘘をつく.

Already started the next manga (25 pages) イモリ201. It’s about a guy and he’s neighbor, a clumsy girl Inori, who managed to destroy the wall separating their rooms, during training.

I mean the “important stuff happens in different places” version but it’s not like I have read enough to know at all haha. Have just seen a few people saying that.

Satori Reader: Secret, Episode 21.

Today was officially going to be my first missed day, because I’ve been completely in the dumps after the second vaccine with high fever and no will nor drive to do anything at all the whole day. Luckily I’m already feeling better, the fever subsided for now and I could finally sneak in today’s episode. What a day, egh.

Day 67: August 6th
What did I read?: 地縛少年 花子くん Vol 1 and 日本のお城
How much did I read?: 26 pages (1 chapter) and 2 pages (1 castle)
How long did it take me?: 1 hour 3 min and 32 min

Time for Hanako is once again a bit off, since I was vocab sheeting it up while reading (lol). Hopefully someone is actually using the vocab sheet xD (honestly though, even if not, the process of filling it out is weirdly soothing, so I don’t really mind doing it when I have the time and someone else has not already done it lol). The spirit world place inside the stair is super cool looking…
