リングフィットアドベンチャーとペルソナをプレイしました。スイッチは持って来ませんでしたからペルソナがあまりプレイしません。その結果に少し四畳半神話大系を読んだしベルセルクも読んだし。原神をプレイしたかったがアップデートが必要だったから無理でした。明日は絶対スイッチを持ちます。

Oh, no, I know the meaning of the kanji, just not the word, apparently. (Except I apparently know “shrimp” is えび, so you’d think I’d know by extension “snake” is へび, but I guess it’s not in my brain that deep yet.) I’ll try the snakes hiss mnemonic, thanks!

Unfortunately, despite the vocab of note including it I wrote down yesterday, I still don’t know that “fart” is へ yet; that was my first time seeing it. Even if something with へ might work better since it’s the same character, I’ll have to stick with romaji even though the association isn’t as strong. Thanks, though!

another long section of 逆転検事(ぎゃくてんけんじ) but i coped okay! it’s easier when it’s towards the end of a case, and the pieces make more sense and your brain can fill in the gaps. it’s at this point that the script i was using runs out, and i haven’t been able to find another one. i’ll have to make do with this guide, despite how little text there is. (pretty sure someone linked this site in the forum ages ago, can’t remember who tho. useful site!). finally get to meet shi long in the next one, very exciting! presumably kay is off enjoying life somewhere too

Honestly, I have little problem understanding mini-games at the last Ch. just like Komi-chan I have heard a little about the last mini, though.

Doing another installment as well (散りゆく者への子守唄) is refreshing. Taking a more careful look at how-to-game.

Words of the day

• 一服(いっぷく)する = to have a cup of tea; to take a break
• 擁(よう)する = to command; to lead / to possess
• 賄(まかな)う = to supply; to fund. The Kanji also used in 賄賂(わいろ)
• ちちくり合(あ)う = to flirt with each other = 乳繰(ちちく)り合(あ)う. Not sure if I should have notion of the leading Kanji; it’s supposedly onomatopoeia being assigned Ateji, anyway.
• 駆(か)り立(た)てる = to impel; to drive someone into. 戦(いくさ)に駆(か)り立(た)てる in context. No Furigana makes confusion, but supposedly alternate Kanji for 狩(か)る.
• 垣間見(かいまみ)る = to take a peep at. In-between the fences (垣(かき)), but sound changes.
• 盟(めい)を結(むす)ぶ = to form an alliance
• 手(て)に取(と)るように = quite clearly; distinctly
• 黄金比(おうごんひ) = Golden ratio - Wikipedia. Describing a fingernail, lol. Is that a ref to somewhere?
• 荒療治(あらりょうじ) = rough-and-ready remedy. 療治(りょうじ) can also be used for medical treatments in some specific ways.
• 階級(かいきゅう) = (social) class
• 周旋(しゅうせん) = acting as an intermediate; recommendation. Kanji are from 一周(いっしゅう)   +   旋律(せんりつ).
• 腹案(ふくあん) = plan from one’s mind (腹(ふく))
• 元手(もとで) = funds; capital. e.g. 元手(もとで)がない.
• 軍勢(ぐんぜい) = military forces; troops
• 頑健(がんけん) = robust and healthy
• 常駐(じょうちゅう) = permanent stationing. Of troops in a castle, in context.
• 徴収(ちょうしゅう) = to collect (taxes). 徴収(ちょうしゅう)した兵(へい) in context, that is, 徴兵(ちょうへい).
• 徴兵(ちょうへい) = military draft; conscription; calling up for military service. Related is 傭兵(ようへい) (= mercenary).
  • The first Kanji is probably better known in 特徴(とくちょう), but it also has another meaning for collecting / enrollment.
• 支持(しじ) = giving support; backing. Similar sounding is 指示(しじ) and 師事(しじ), which both feels like giving guidance / instruction (opposite direction from backing).

I spent part of 16-18th playing Super Metroid from start to finish (during my free time). I am having switch online for only a month, so I decided to check if there were any snes games I wanted to play and I never finished Super Metroid as a kid. It came out when I was 5-6 years old, so I probably played it when I was like 7-8. xD

It felt like quite the achievement to finally finish that classic game.

And since I’m talking about games anyway, I just realized I’ll have family visit me to finish changing my heating system right as LoZ Tears of the Kingdom releases. So I won’t be able to start playing it until it has been out for almost a week.

Anyway, I’m enjoying Flying Witch and it fits the easy slot pretty well. And what I’m not quite sure of (but ignore at the time) have so far always been talked about in the old club threads, so I get that clarity after the fact anyway.

かがみの孤城, 60-71%

True to my decision to start finishing books, I only focused on かがみの孤城 today. According to my calculations I read about 60 pages. Did I say there was some excitement yesterday? Well, it’s gone. Out of those 60 pages, there may have been about, I don’t know, 10 pages of actual interesting content? Don’t these characters have any sense of urgency? Is the writer being paid by the page? What’s going on?
I’m very thankful for the audiobook. Even though I can’t stand the narrator’s voice when she gets timid and whiny, it helps keep a good rhythm at least.

I realize I probably sound way too negative. I still hope for an amazing payoff, but however spectacular the ending, I’m starting to doubt it can make up for pages upon pages of almost nothing. (sorry, I tried to fix sounding negative and I made it worse )

Here is my report for last week:

Last week was very successful, first I finished 水たまりで息をする and then I decided to clean up my “reading” pile a bit and finished 穴 (finally, whew ). Then I was a bit undecided regarding what to read next, and so I went for another “reading” pile cleanup book: ifの悲劇 . When I tried it the last time, I just couldn’t manage the dialogues, but this time around I have almost no issues with it, which makes me very happy! I reread about half of what I had read before (from where the “if” part starts) because I figured it might be good to refresh my memory on that.
For those of you who haven’t heard about the book: It’s a kind of murder mystery where very early in the story a car accident happens, and from that point on the story is split into two branches: Either a certain person dies in that car accident, or not. From there we get 4 chapters each that tell the two stories in an interleaved fashion, which makes it a bit confusing (“which branch are we on again? where did we leave off previously?”) and also very interesting because for the later stages the reader has lots of background info from both stories at the same time, while the protag of course only knows one side of it.

Plans for this week:

• Finish ifの悲劇
• Dive back into some Flesh&Blood bonus stories as we are planning to pick up Vol. 12 soon, and I want to read one or two of these short stories first.

I’m still undecided about whether I want to join an offshoot club for this if there is one. I’m enjoying it, but 28 volumes and still releasing feels like a big commitment!

I wish more names and places in the examples were Japanese instead of western. For some reason katakana words confuse me more than regular Japanese words.
