I realize this is early in my learning journey, as I’m only at level 4 or 5. However, I’m determined to complete my daily reviews each day, rather than letting them accumulate. Typically, I manage around 70-100 reviews per day, which can become overwhelming when I have other commitments. As I continue to progress, will the number of reviews continue to increase? While I feel like I’m retaining characters, I’m concerned that the volume of reviews might become overwhelming.

If you decrease the number of lessons per day, the number of reviews will gradually go down. I’ve decreased from 15 to 10 to 7. Because I study in other ways (textbook, Bunpro, reading, listening…) and have a life outside of Japanese studies, this helps me to keep things in balance. I usually have between 50 and 60 reviews per day.

If you go full force, the fastest possible speed you can go, there will be days with 400-500 reviews depending on how many you get right.
Many limit their reviews by keeping the apprentice items in check. These are the items you see most often and influence the review load the most. Typical numbers are: don’t do any lessons if apprentice items are over 150 (or 100). You can adjust depending on how many you think you can handle.
If you go at roughly constant speed without big breaks in between, the load will slightly increase for roughly 5 months until you start burning your first items.

A good estimate for the number of daily reviews is 9x the average lessons you do per day (since each new learned item will be reviewed at least 8 times before being burned. The additional review is to account for mistakes).
So 15 lessons per day should give you 135 reviews a day. 20 lessons will give you 180 reviews etc.
Of course this is only an average, and this number can vary wildly from day to day if the number of daily lessons you do changes significantly.

In case “I am a glutton for pain” data is useful, here’s mine.
I’ve been going approximately full speed since I started; I did my ~90ish Apprentice reviews already today, so here is my schedule for the next couple days.
Since most of my Apprentice items are up for Guru, I won’t see them again until Wednesday, which is to say the 24 number for Tuesday is probably not gonna go up much higher. The numbers on and past Wednesday will definitely go up, since I’ll unlock more lessons by Guruing radicals on Wednesday.
This workload feels pretty consistent lately. I expect it to increase slightly one more time when my cards can start being burned in February.
