Ray sees the other kids being awesome, and tries to do his part, only to be preempted 
I’m a little confused at the situation at the end of the chapter. Ray is hiding, but they definitely know he’s there, right? They killed the big demon to save him, and one of them reported that they found him.
I think it’s supposed to be a little unclear at this point.
Loved the moment where the beast’s head comes off! That was unexpected!

Those four-legged oni seem pretty fast. It’s kind of hard to believe Ray could outrun them, even for a short time.
I was thinking the same thing. You can kinda suspend your disbelief in a manga, but I wonder how they handled that in the anime
I actually watched it, but I don’t remember 
Maybe it’s that they’re fast, but can’t change direction quickly?
I read it as that they were not actually trying to catch up, because they had to capture Ray alive instead of killing him, so they were trying to tire him out and then just pick him up. They did not look otherwise equipped to do a non-lethal capture with those claws.
