Practicing Translating Words from English to Japanese

One Thing I’ve noticed recently that Wanikani Lacks, Is the ability to use the site to practice remembering words in Japanese, from their English meaning. Perhaps giving users, a separate section, that allows them to choose a number of reviews, where they are given words in English, and must translate them into Japanese could be beneficial. This feature would allow those who dont feel confident in their ability to speak Japanese in a real-world scenario, to practice remembering words outside of Kanji.

This is exactly what Kaniwani does. It is basically the reverse of Wanikani, an English to Japanese SRS.

Every WK word i dont know I make an anki flashcard from… English on the front… audio/japanese writing on the back.

I used to pair this with physical flashcards too so I can really make it stick but I probably have less brainpower so need the reinforcement.

Its a lot more work but retention and quick recall are better.

I am navigating how to deal with synonyms though… some of my cards have one concept and more than 4 answers which tends to make me get 1 of 4 right and say “good enough” which is not ideal but is what the brain wants.

I have no idea if what im doing is optimal (disclaimer)

Thank You so Much, I’ve been struggling for so long remembering words in Japanese from their English meanings.
