👣 This Week's Guide
  • Go through 8番道路
  • Go through the underground path
  • Go through 7番道路 (there’s nothing here)
  • Enter タマムシシティ
  • Buy a drink from the department store and give it to the thirsty guard on 7番道路 gatehouse to open it up
  • If playing the original you can pick up the HM move Fly from 16番道路 in a house
  • Defeat the gym!
  • Go into the game corner basement to defeat team rocket
📓 Pokemon Tips and Tricks
  • STAB moves: when a move type matches the type of a Pokemon, it will do 50% extra damage
  • Status conditions: Inflicting status conditions like sleep give you a greater chance to catch a pokemon
  • Weak Pokemon: If you want to level up a weak Pokemon in a high level area, you can send it out first in a battle then immediately switch to another Pokemon to share the EXP with both
  • HM moves: These moves are necessary for game progression but are worse than most moves and cannot be deleted once learned. It can be a good idea to have a pokemon on your team dedicated to carrying as many of these moves as possible
  • Losing Battles: Note that when you lose a battle you also lose half your money

🔥 Nuzlocke Rules

An optional challenge for Pokemon games to shake them up a bit is to do a nuzlocke challenge which basically involves only catching one pokemon in each area. If you’re interested in trying it out you can make a little “home post”/list for a running count of who you’ve got from each area and to keep track of duplicates if you’re using that rule.

Core Rules

  1. If a Pokemon faints you cannot use it again. (Box or release it)
  2. You must catch the first Pokemon you find in a new area. If it flees or faints you cannot catch another in that area
  3. You must nickname all pokemon you get

Optional Rules

  1. If you already own the first Pokemon you encounter in a new area, you can catch the next instead to prevent duplicates
  2. If you encounter a shiny, you can catch it no matter what, and it doesn’t count towards that area’s catch

There are many other optional rules but these are the basics from Nuzlocke university

:red_exclamation_mark: Note: If you’re playing Let’s Go it’s a little different for 2 reasons: wild Pokemon walk around in the overworld so there’s no random encounters, and you level pokemon up by catching them. Therefore if you want to Nuzlocke Lets Go you can do the following:

  1. Catch the Pokemon closest to you in a new area, or run around with your eyes closed and catch the first one you bump into
  2. You’re allowed to catch extras to level up, but they must be immediately released

Set this thread to “Watching” to get updates!

Alright, we’re due for some name explanations! I had it prepped last week and was going to copy and paste it over, but… I was trying to see if I could just copy and paste the url for the draft instead because my reply had hyperlink text, and then I forgot I had just overriden the copy and paste for the entire reply, and didn’t have clipboard history on :skull:

So I’m gonna whip through it way faster this time! Sorry if I don’t switch to JP a lot

We had pikachu and raichu, they had onomatopoeia, pikapika was sparking, or should I say sparkling all newly cleaned kitchen like, and chuuchuu is what mouses are trying to say, and rai is thunder

Then we had Mr. Mime whose name is bariyaado, from barrier and apparently weird according to two sources, and the latter being “weird” confused me a bit, I couldn’t find yaado having that meaning or even being a loan word, I just found it being yard, and ウィード was what I thought it would be. And then my conclusion was that maybe it just sounds close enough when going from barrier to weird

Then we had Ponyta and Rapidash, the latter being called gallop in JP. Ponyta was pony+bonita, which wasn’t JP but meant pretty iirc. Then I heard bonita was a fem form of bueno for nice/good, and then I saw the possibility of “gal” in “gallop” I guess maybe having the same idea, and then I also pointed out gyaru being a fashion style and linked it even though it had nothing to do with the Pokemon

And then we had Snorlax who was called Kabigon, and fun fact, that Pokemon is a manifestation of one of the game freak staff! And what I didn’t know was that they gave him the nickname Kirby because of his appetite which is where the Pokemon’s name came from. I forgot the name of the staff and am about to find it out now so I’ll link this one again anyway if you want to see Snorlax irl, his name is Kōji Nishino

And that was about it, hope I didn’t make it too rushed but I feel like I got the main points down good, at least now I shouldn’t have any clipboard trouble lol

welp we’re gamblers now, I hope this doesn’t retroactively increase this game’s age rating

Gotta catch 'em all!

ビート held it down against all those poison types team rocket was using and the gym later which was good since I haven’t used them in a while, and also I noticed something, I used double needle/twin needle against a スリーパー and as a bug type I had the type advantage. Which I should, however, I heard that in the original game boy versions, a glitch made it backwards? I thought that Pokemon like Alakazam/Houdini or whoever’s likeness they used idk I didn’t get that far yetwere busted because of a glitch where their type weaknesses became advantages, to the point of being banned, but maybe I’m misremembering or maybe this glitch was only in the western release?

ワンマン was leveled a little lower since the cave and I was having trouble grinding, and then bam it started going really fast after it learned a fighting type move

The item management in this version is starting to grow on me (but I wouldn’t mind an extra slot or two) but the confusing names for some of the Pokemon supplements… idk how I feel about that. I get it, items needed short names and it’s cool giving them counterparts. 4 items total that increase PP, split into two counterparts for healing one move vs. healing all moves, split again into less effective and more effective versions. And that’s all well and good, but, I remember PP Aid heals one move a little, and PP Max healing all moves a lot, and then there’s PP aider and PP Recover, so PP aider MUST be the better version of PP aid, right? Nope, counterpart. I guess it makes sense in the sentiment that the value of points healed remains constant and it’s the addition of it affecting all the moves as the “upgrade”, ok fair enough but do they have any idea how confusing that is? With all the healing items you’d assume they’d default to value of points rather than # of moves. Now in theory, you’d think that’s about as complicated as it gets, but I gotta call them out a little bit more, because there were two more items called, Max Up and Point Up?! Max up… max up WHAT exactly? And point up WHAT exactly? I can understand why they’d make one of them vague because PP isn’t a stat that can increase with each level up the same way something like HP does, but why are BOTH of them vague? So off the top of your head it’s impossible to tell which one will increase PP and the other one you don’t even know which stat it is because it’s unspecified. Oh my goodness please just call them something like HP Up and PP Up and give the other 4 better names or something lol.

Also, some of them got interesting names, I remember there being things like Iron and Calcium in the English versions, where Iron would raise defense regardless of what it actually does irl. I’ve never heard the Japanese words for some of these before and iirc bulbapedia links them, but now I can’t help but wonder “do these actually do the same thing irl”

I’m sitting the game corner out for this one, I like it in the remakes more. idk I just feel like in this version, the middle reel has a huge gap waiting for a single 7 to show up and it’s hard to see. I do love the music though, really nostalgic hearing it all the time during minigames for Pokemon Stadium!

And lastly, Backspin finally evolved into its prime! Just in time for the grass type gym so I can pretend to be like “woah it evolved during a pinch in a high stakes battle” even though it doesn’t work like that in the games

Name backlog (includes Pokemon yet to evolve!)

The starters we have yet to explain as they evolve (pretty soon now!), AND the Eevee evolutions, as well as:

Adventure Log

Realised I forgot to talk to the guys in the pokemon centres that give Eevee special moves

Probably should have done the gym and game corner the other way around due to level but oh well. Gym was a breeze with Eevee’s new fire move woohoo

I’ve also just thought of a way I can keep track of my new pokemon on each route without having to write it down somewhere, I’m just gonna start naming them the route i got them on lol

Week 9 is up!

Big week so a little late

Week 8 adventure with shiny, gym and ロケット団

After last week’s hours of NOTHING for the shiny hunt the game decided to be kind to me

ニドラン:male_sign: after only 35 chained!!!

I love that he has his sister’s colors!

Exploring タマムシシティ and visiting the GameFreak office. Better not touch the game code

The shopping center is really cute

I bought some accessories for ピカチュウ

and a ほのおのいし to evolve ガーディ into ウインディ

The gym is beautiful and of course no problem thanks to my big fluffy fire dog

ムサシ and コジロウ arent having much luck…

Showing off the new outfit from a spy inside the ロケット団アジト before changing back to my other clothes I like more

There is a little scene where we take control of ピカチュウ!

The evil boss wants to fight us again. I’m sure that can be arranged…

And with a new ヒジュツ we can fly back to シオンタウン for next week

Your Pikachu is so cute with the glasses

Also I’m enjoying your shiny hunt :tada:
