👣 This Week's Guide
  • Head North to go through 24番道路 then 25番道路, make sure to heal up there’s lots of trainers here
  • On 24番道路 if you’re playing Let’s Go or Yellow you can talk to the guy at the very top to get a charmander
  • At the end of 25番道路 you’ll reach a house. Go inside and talk to the Pokemon then use the computer and speak to Bill to get a ふねのチケット
  • Return to ハナダシティ the way you came, or by going south of the house then west
  • The police officer blocking one of the houses has now left. Enter it and fight the team rocket goon in the garden, then you’ll receive あなをほる (which is a pretty strong move)
  • If you haven’t already battled the ハナダジム, now is the time before we leave!
📓 Pokemon Tips and Tricks
  • STAB moves: when a move type matches the type of a Pokemon, it will do 50% extra damage
  • Status conditions: Inflicting status conditions like sleep give you a greater chance to catch a pokemon
  • Weak Pokemon: If you want to level up a weak Pokemon in a high level area, you can send it out first in a battle then immediately switch to another Pokemon to share the EXP with both
  • HM moves: These moves are necessary for game progression but are worse than most moves and cannot be deleted once learned. It can be a good idea to have a pokemon on your team dedicated to carrying as many of these moves as possible
  • Losing Battles: Note that when you lose a battle you also lose half your money

🔥 Nuzlocke Rules

An optional challenge for Pokemon games to shake them up a bit is to do a nuzlocke challenge which basically involves only catching one pokemon in each area. If you’re interested in trying it out you can make a little “home post”/list for a running count of who you’ve got from each area and to keep track of duplicates if you’re using that rule.

Core Rules

  1. If a Pokemon faints you cannot use it again. (Box or release it)
  2. You must catch the first Pokemon you find in a new area. If it flees or faints you cannot catch another in that area
  3. You must nickname all pokemon you get

Optional Rules

  1. If you already own the first Pokemon you encounter in a new area, you can catch the next instead to prevent duplicates
  2. If you encounter a shiny, you can catch it no matter what, and it doesn’t count towards that area’s catch

There are many other optional rules but these are the basics from Nuzlocke university

:red_exclamation_mark: Note: If you’re playing Let’s Go it’s a little different for 2 reasons: wild Pokemon walk around in the overworld so there’s no random encounters, and you level pokemon up by catching them. Therefore if you want to Nuzlocke Lets Go you can do the following:

  1. Catch the Pokemon closest to you in a new area, or run around with your eyes closed and catch the first one you bump into
  2. You’re allowed to catch extras to level up, but they must be immediately released

Less talking and more fighting this week but thought I’d leave slightly less to do so those who haven’t fought the gym yet can do that

Week 4 adventure

North of ハナダシティ I fight my rival カンジ and some trainers.

One of them asks me to join ロケット団 but there is no Yes and No option in Let’s Go

In Let’s Go this is also where I can catch ゼニガメ my original first starter Pokemon ^-^

:musical_note: He was a キャンプboy :musical_note:

:musical_note: She was a ピクニックgirl :musical_note:

There are soooo many trainers in this area

In マサキ’s house there is a strange “Pokemon” who speaks Kansai dialect  A little difficult but very fun!!!

ピカチュウ and I must hack the main frame to reveal a handsome man?

The cutscenes in Let’s Go are very cute.

マサキ’s computer has information on the legendary Pokemon.

Hmmm yes, I think Moltres is a cooler name than ファイヤー

Of course with ピカチュウ and the shiny hunter grind, カスミ’s gym is no problem

No Cut yet.. Alright fine, enough for this week

New badge = new shiny hunt next week!!

Good luck to all other 未来のチャンピオン and see you again

I have a memory of having a Yes/No option in Red way back when, but actually you don’t get a choice in the earlier games either!

Adventure Log 5

Not much to say for this week. I talked with trainers. I battled with trainers. I talked with trainers some more.

The mysterious trainer who traded me 052 Chris returned and traded me another Pokemon, 004 Slav:

004 Slav arrived wearing a がくしゅうそうち on his head. He seems to learn to battle better even without participating.

マサキ’s a Clefairy in this release.

Here’s マサキ after he’s separated from the Pokemon. (Where did the Pokemon go?)

After leaving his home then returning, checking マサキ’s computer gives some 図鑑 entries.

Back in town, the Slowbro has moved:

My team at the end of this week:

Hidden Items

Routes 24 and 25

Voice Checker

Be sure to speak to the boy with the yellow cap in the PokeCen to get a quote about マサキ.

W4

It’s cool that they also let 5yo design pokemons:

There are way too many trainers on this route. Is it going like this everywhere from now on? An encounter every 4 steps?

Deep lore.

Ooh, it’s one of those games.

A reference to The Fly? Bold in a game for small kids.

The spritework for the trashed room was surprisingly intricate by the standards of this game:

I enjoyed how they tied the break-in with the “hole digging” pokemon move.

Overall a pretty annoying week without many new pokemon, but I’m looking forward to getting to the boat. I’m not sure why, I just welcome the change of scenery I suppose.

I made room to catch a new pokemon but didn’t find anything worthwhile, so I ended up with this roster:

POKOOLMON

Name Evaluation Is it cool?
マンキー what the fuck :cross_mark:
ワンリキー Is it fugly pokemon week or something? :cross_mark:
ヤドン It’s a… weird pink squirrel I guess? :cross_mark:
スリップ It’s a weird antlion :white_check_mark:

I have yet to use any of the ワザマシン by the way. Can’t be bothered to figure out where to allocate them.

I have no idea why this exists, but it does, and everyone should experience it

Version: Red Fire + Leaf Green
Goal: Complete Pokedex (150)
Pokedex, Caught / Seen:
Week 1: 10/10
Week 2: 15/18
Week 3: 33/40
Week 4: 40/57

Found some more reading that could be done.

Pokemon have a とくせい in RF/GL. So my ニャース keeps picking up berries, nice.

Really nice to have the badge from ハナダシティ, was a bit difficult to level up the Pokemon I got from GL. Now they will obey until level 30, should be fine for a bit!

Got everyone from box 1 to level 18 (not pictured, Pupuce):

Box 2, Pokemon that will evolve another way

Box 3, Pokemon that have reached their final evolution (used for trading with GL, recycling for the win :+1: )

Pokedex:

I enjoy reading your Pokémon evaluations

I always wanted to join Team Rocket…

ドーナツ姫 the meowth has joined the team! ナルト the clefairy is tagging along while I decide if I want to add it to my permanent team.

And I don’t remember Bill being this attractive

Week 4

I headed up to Rt. 24 and 25 before attempting the gym. While exploring, I beat up my rival, a bunch of bridge trolls…er, trainers, and a Team Rocket goon. I also caught Myst the ナゾノクサ and boxed Kee the スピアー for the time being. I don’t usually like raising the early game grass types, but I knew I needed one for this gym, given the composition of the rest of my team. Unfortunately, I failed at my attempt to catch a ケーシィ on Rt. 25 - it woke up from the sleep powder too fast and teleported away! :sob: I also met a mad scientist who speaks in thick Kansai-ben who gave me a ticket to a party on a cruise ship. Nice guy…if a bit eccentric.

In any case, I took on the gym once I had Myst, as well as everyone else on my active team, at Level 18. I also taught Myst タネマシンガン with a わざマシン. Between that and a number of キズぐすり, I made it through the gym without any losses! Now, having done that, and taken care of the police’s job for them, I am about to head out of town (next week).

Ah HA!!!
I found you all!
Yay!イエイ!!

Let’s Go Evee was my first attempt to play a Pokemon game, ever… And I didn’t get far into the gym ..
I am hoping to pick up playing this, again. And I might be asking you all for help, since I don’t know any pokemons. (I’m old, and Pokemon came out while I was actively working in my career, and no time for frivolous fun…but now I’m retired and studying Japanese, so… I’m catching up on a lot of “life” that I “missed”)

Welcome aboard the pokemon train!

After having your comment in my head, I noticed they changed the picnic girls from being called mini skirts in the original! I took a picture of it but then I noticed there was already a comment with the exact same dialogue as mine in this thread

I didn’t remember this route being that bad compared to that one leading up to お月見山, and technically it’s not since the bridge is its own thing, but try telling that to my Pokemon and the gauntlet they went through

Gotta catch 'em all!

I kiiiinda ran outta きずぐすり after last week and forgot to restock. It was a close match between my rival without any healing items but I’m impressed with my team for holding it down. In my version I’m so used to seeing the heals and monster balls at the top of the list since they’re the most convenient and earliest items you get, so having them appear at the bottom of the list this time was a bummer, but! Using the select button (In the original at least), you can rearrange not only Pokemon moves (during a battle) but also items, so I was able to fix it!

At the end of the bridge, I got a gold ball. I wonder if more people will try to give us their balls? In fact, in the Let’s Go versions of the games, in お月見山, I heard that there’s an old man who sometimes appears, and apparently it’s because he only shows up in the scenario where you run out of monster balls. And then when you talk to him to restock, he VERY enthusiastically insists that you take his old man balls. I swear I’m not making this up, I only know about it because I saw a screenshot of it in a Let’s Go anki deck when I first started learning Japanese, but it’d be awesome if we found it

At some point this week, I was trying to speed up the wild encounters just so I could see all the Pokemon I could catch, and that’s when I toggled the battle animation in the settings, but to my confusion, nothing changed. That’s because it didn’t affect the way the Pokemon scroll onto the screen, but rather, skipping the animations of the moves themselves! Speaking of which, I like the animation from the original when Pokemon are confused and three ? marks appear, they changed it in FRLG to birds swirling around the head. Pokemon Stadium had the ? marks (and whenever I saw it, I was so unlucky that I felt like all my moves failed when I was a kid lol)

That’s right, there was a スリップ this week! Whose name is just… sleep? I’d love if there was more to it though, maybe we can double check bulbapedia in case there’s anything else. There’s an article I found on ばく and why they eat dreams and now’s probably a good time to show it

なぜ夢を食べるのは「バク」なのか? 霊獣と夢のナゾを解説 | 和樂web 美の国ニッポンをもっと知る!

Lastly I feel like a genius finding a piece of dialogue that may or may not be obvious

No new dance crew members this week, I’m hoping to find one next one though!

Name backlog (includes Pokemon yet to evolve!)

The Pokemon listed are ones we already encountered at some point (although may be slightly different depending on which what version pairs with what), the starters we’ll get to eventually, plus the following (some of them we already explained their earlier forms and may have yet to evolve, others might include the entire evolution line and may be better to explain the whole line at once): ポッポ、 オニスズメ、 ピカチュ、アーボ、サンド、ニドラン、ピッピ、プリン、ズバット、ナゾノクサ、マンキ、タダツボミ、パラス、コイル、ビリリダマ、ベトベター、ドガース、イシツブテ

Now for some more for week four, I remembered Magikarp was コイキング right after posting but didn’t want to edit it because Magikarp’s whole thing is that he’s judged by the appearance of being a pathetic Pokemon. Anyway, some more: ワンリキー, ヤドン, シェルター, タッツー, トサキント, ヒトデマン

Name backlog is starting to pile up huh, I’ll knock out a few at the start of next week, feel free if there’s any ya’ll wanna take!

The boyscouts lost their prestige too apparently!

Oh you’re right, good catch! From boy scout to camp boy

It’s time to drop anchor in クチバシティ!
