Pitch perfect for kana?

I noticed again doing some lessons this morning that not all kana vocabulary words have pitch accent markings (yet?). My first four lessons this morning were ガラス, そこ, あそこ and キロ, only one of which (キロ) had a marked pitch pattern. Unfortunately I’m not very good at picking up pitch just from listening and marking the pitch accent really helps. Is it because they vary too much, or just because it’s an outstanding task? If the latter, I’ll put my hand up as someone who finds them useful.

Trying to find the pitch accent for あそこ brought out an extra colloquial meaning I wasn’t expecting, so there’s a silver lining to these things. All time spent is useful.

Where do you find these pitch accents? I never saw them on WK by default. I get them via the item inspector script. And in that case you better ask there?

For some obscure reason these aren’t switched on by default and I don’t even know if there’s an app option setting; although there jolly well should be! I used the user script Wanikani Pitch Info to toggle the setting. Once the setting is switched on, WK will normally display the pitch in lessons, reviews and on the vocabulary page.

I see. It would be very useful indeed to see the pitch-accent on these other pages. I now installed the pitch accent userscript and it seems to work. I thought getting the accents on the item inspector was the extent of it.
You are right that it doesn’t work for the kana-only words btw. Hopefully that can be fixed by WK / the scripter.

Link to the pitch accent script for those who didn’t know of it (like me!)

I switched this on some time ago and hadn’t realized that it did a lookup on Weblio. That’ll teach me to read the fine print. I suppose the plea would then be to get pitch info supported officially. (Even just the pitch accent number would be a good start, and easy enough to implement.)

It would probably be most effective to post a request for changes to a user script to the main thread for that script. If the person that created/maintains the script is still active, that is the thread they are most likely going to be following.

Cool. I didn’t think this was a script change when I started. I’ve just been reading some of the thread and it looks like a lot of work went into it.

Scripts don’t just toggle settings, WK doesn’t have a built-in pitch info feature. Scripts just go ahead an implement the feature themselves.
