Picture Book Challenge 2020!

If the samples that I looked at are anything to go by, the first batch of 0 books are basically pictures.

I know I’m starting a bit early, but I want to get the most out of my free time while I have it so I will feel less pressured to read 4 books a day later on  (and as some people pointed out, it’s probable that books will take more time to read as they get more advanced).

That sounds like a good plan! Maybe I should start early too :0

Ah well, let’s do it for the lulz

The books will definitely take more time to read, as you advance… Especially in the upper division levels. We might be reading novels.

I’ll be honest here, im allready binge reading these.
(Since its the holidays, meaning no uni)

All we gotta do is finish it all by 2021 right ?

The login tutorial is a bit out of date I think

Just read my first book! Such a challenge :exploding_head::exploding_head:

Which book was it?
I just read a book about Shinkansen, super intense :fearful: It’s weird that it’s in the 0歳 category

Oh huh? I read おおきい?ちいさい?

Haha after the Montesori books you’ll start to get words  The Shinkansen book (the 17th in the list I think) is a perfect example of how Kanji can be super helpful

Yeah so far it’s just a word at the start and then just pictures

Definitely too much text for the 0 category xD
Im not expecting that group to have a consistent level tho
(regarding the shinkansen book)

I’m interested in joining. Really happy that you found and shared this. Since I’m still ‘Basic’ WK is not letting me edit the post to add my name to the list. Would it be possible for you to add me? In the meantime, I can go around liking a bunch of people’s responses to see if that upgrades me. Thanks!

Any chance you could set up a way to export/import the progress in some text file? I do have a couple different devices I’ll be going between, and it would be nice to not have to synchronize them manually.

@Pep95 Yeah, that tutorial just takes into account the desktop version. I’m thinking that I should just make my own guides for both mobile + desktop and put them on the site.

@repetersen Added you to the list! Yeah, hopefully you’ll get to Member status soon and you can edit it. Glad you’re joining !

@NLeseul Might be easier for you if there were user accounts? I’m already using a database to store the picture book information, so wouldn’t be too hard to add users as well. Basically, I’m thinking that the current browser-specific saving would still work, but if someone wanted to have their progress save across browsers and devices, they could create a user for that. What do you think?

@Emiloow Wow you’re really making great progress! You too @NickeeCoco! That’s awesome. I still haven’t figured out a good way to try to re-organize the books to be in a more appropriate “age group”. If we want to start keeping track of how we might re-categorize some of them, I can keep a list to update them later.

For everyone else, challenge officially starts in NINE DAYS!!! Be sure you make your account on EhonNavi and test that everything works properly (can log in, can read one book, etc).

This sounds great! I would like to join as well!

Seems perfectly reasonable to me, if you can set that up reasonably easily. I was just thinking that a JSON importer/exporter or something would be a lot easier to write and maintain than a whole account creation flow.

The more that I’m thinking about this, the more that I think going to JSON import/export would be a simpler solution for now (less cost, less time to create). Maybe as the year progresses, and if more people want to be able to create a user, I can revisit how to make that work.

Will let you know when I have the import / export up and running .

I can’t seem to read the books. I got this window that said error_code:5 whenever I tried to read a book, and now it won’t let me read the books…
