Olympians (medalists announced - congrats everyone!)

@_Shiori Thank you :slight_smile:

Congratulations everyone who levelled up this week! A lot is happening on the leaderboard here :rocket:

@MissDagger I hope you’ll feel better soon. If 20 days per level feels most comfortable for you for the time being then don’t push yourself too hard. Can’t focus on all things at once: Bunpro, WaniKani, other forms of studying, enjoying the language in a less structured way – so many things to do and only 24 hours in a day!

It looks like the only qualification you’re still missing is “Visiting at least 15 days, not sequentially” – so just keep showing up and you’ll be there soon!

I’m not sure I have a comfortable level pace, after level 7 it went from ca 8 days per level to above one month for my longest and now it has been slowly growing shorter again. In fact if I get it to 20, that will be my shortest level since like January.

But right now, I have no idea what will happened. Considering my head is heavy with this cold and I can barely string two thoughts together. Doesn’t help that when I cough my brain hurts, when I blow my nose my brain hurts, when I do anything but lay down and do nothing, my brain hurts (not badly, more like a dull ache but still). Maybe this is what vacation mode is for, but I hope to feel better tomorrow. Since I’m not really feeling worse than yesterday that isn’t a pipe-dream.

I’ve had these up and down phases too. But you recently moved to Japan and are also doing Bunpro at the same time, right? There’s only so many hours in a day that you can spend on learning Japanese, especially when a lot of other stuff is going on in your life. And maybe there will come a phase again where you decide you want to slow down in other areas and speed up again in WaniKani.

I hope you feel better soon! If you need a day of rest to improve your recovery, just take it and don’t worry about WaniKani. The crabigator will still be here in two days, waiting for you to serve him. :crabigator::bowing_woman:

Don’t you worry, if it is something I’m good at, it is to not burn out. It has happened to my dad and my little brother. However, you are right that I will probably be able to race much quicker with WK when I don’t have so much other Japanese study in my day (mainly the 3 hours of class), so sometime end of March next year potentially. 笑

After a long day of rest, I am feeling better but not up for worshiping the crabigator. Probably tomorrow though, at least I hope to be well enough to go to class. They frown a lot on absence in Japan. As if you could stop yourself from being sick.

Thank you! I didn’t realize I was getting into the pain until I got Koichi’s email

Edit:What do you mean Koichi isn’t personally sending emails to me?!

I mean spending your time going to Japanese classes in japan is a better time investment than just doing wanikani. You’ll be actively using and reviewing the learned kanji in context and even learn some new ones while you’re at it.

So, I joined this train a while ago with conviction but not that much hope, but then I checked my stats…

If you watch carefully you can spot the point I posted on that thread, and now everything is possible again ! (:fire:.:fire:)

Have a look at the updated version. It unfortunately does not have projections, but it does work with the median rather than the average, which gives you a much more realistic image of when you will get to level 60. (Rather than the current date above which predicts that you will achieve level 60 in 10 years)

Wheww… made it to level 22 this morning. That was a tough one. To be honest, I started to feel like the whole thing was just one big grind and lost the motivation to continue. For a couple of days, I just halfway did a few reviews and no lessons.
Taking a break to do some reading (which ironically has become easier now that I know more kanji) really turned things around for me. I am also following the Genki study group to get better at the grammar.
Congratulations to all the Teams. Special shout out to Team 水… Progress is progress no matter what the pace.

True, Japanese class is very valuable although I would say it is seriously poor at teaching kanji. I only know the kanji that have come up in class because I learned them properly on WK first and any kanji I haven’t yet learnt on WK are much harder to make stick for class since I won’t be reviewing it at opportune times.

As for me, I’m feeling better. Even went to class today although only because Japan is very strict about attendance. I might have been better off staying home, but I don’t feel worse, so I guess it is okay. I just hope I didn’t transfer my cold to someone else, which is the danger when people are encouraged to still go to school when sick. >_>

I hope you wore your face mask

Part of the time. If I’d wanted to faint from heatstroke inside an air-conditioned room I would have worn it the whole time (it was super hot to have it on, is what I was implying… I know I couldn’t actually have gotten heatstroke from it). But any time I did talking exercises, yes, and when I was outside. Although I’ve heard they aren’t really that affective, but I’ll follow the culture where I go to a reasonable degree.

yes my thoughts exactly!!! i used to be able to cram 10 kanji per session but idk now i do like 3 kanjis, 7 vocab? cause i wanna learn them and not just forcefully try to memorize them T_T

Congrats on the level-up @Redglare and @SuperSnoopy ! I’ve been mostly absent from the forum lately due to being busy (and a bit down) but i’m gonna make an effort to become active again in congratulating everyone :eyes: (I can’t let @MissDagger steal all my precious duties )
