Why meaning related to numbers can only be input as words, i.e. why 四千 only accepts four thousand and not 4000 ?
You can add your own meanings.
Because WaniKani accept similarly written answers as correct, so 5000 is similar to 500 and 4000, based on minimal typing differences.
Why won’t you accept numerals as correct answers?
That’s “1,000” for 千, or “10,000” for 万.
The answer is two-fold:
Numerals are not vocabulary words.
Since there is some leeway in your English meaning answers, the difference between 1,000 and 10,000 would not be detected. So you would get the answer correct even if you put 1,000 in for 万 (which should be 10,000).
For now, numerals will not be allowed, but we may add the possibility in the future.

Wow, saw the FAQ like a week ago and I totally missed that. Thanks man.
WK will accept numbers in rare cases. For instance:
四十二階 accepts "floor 42"
２０１１年 accepts “2011”.
But those are exceptions to the rule.
Seeing some like those was what drove me to ask.
