Solved! It was never a thing to begin with, so I got hallucinations

You can also use this script Niai 似合い Visually Similar Kanji. They add more items than in the WK catalogue and you can even add items you feel are similar if they aren’t already in there. The script will show these on the relevant kanji page.
Thanks a lot! I was also wondering about this, I will install it ![]()
In addition to this, does anyone know a website with alternative mnemonics ? I am not looking for a script, just a simple website to have alternative ideas if ever needed ![]()
Renshuu has user submitted mnemonics. Not sure if they have mnemonics for every word and if they have all of the WK kanji/words, but should be more than sufficient as an alternative.
thanks a lot! will check that out
Can I get a list of my stats on WaniKani or do I need to use a third party app/script? I see people posting their stats like accuracy, average time per level, etc. However, I can’t find this in my profile or any widgets that provide all the stats I see people post. (At most I can find how long I’ve been on WaniKani and accuracy on two different widgets)
those are from https://www.wkstats.com/
you’ll need to give it a key that you can generate in your settings
Thank you!
Hello! Not very new but I am very confused about something that seems basic:
I am halfway through guru’ing all the kanjis of level 17, and yet almost none of the vocab of this level has unlocked. Usually the vocab is already mostly unlocked by then, so I am starting to think either something is wrong or I am losing my mind..
Most of my level 16 kanjis are guru’d as well.
I think I remember this from level 17. Lots of Vocab that needed Kanji from the ‘second half’ of the Kanji. Look at the vocabulary items that are not yet unlocked. Do you see any that only require Kanji that you already have at Guru?
It should be as simple as that: vocab unlocks if all the required Kanji for it are unlocked.
Ah you are right, that’s very odd. Usually the vocab comes from mostly the kanjis of previous level.
Here it seems that it is mostly vocab of the current level, if I am correct. Seems a bit odd pacing, but I will take it..
Since I do my kanjis in two batches of 15-ish, it means I am locked out for a while
.
Thanks for the help!
Is there a topic covering “what (tf) is X”? E.g. I have only a vague idea of what “shaved ice” is. Would be nice to have one thread with Qs and As like that.
Similarly, I am confused by jellyfish radical –> shellfish kanji. Is “jellyfish” an error, or can the kanji mean either. Again – is there a thread tracking unclear bits in WK content?
I’ve tried searching the forum a little, but no luck…
I don’t think there’s a “jellyfish” radical. Instead, it’s the “shellfish” radical that is identical in appearance to the “shellfish” kanji. Try that and tell me what happens.
I don’t think we have such a thread. If you started one, I’m sure I’d learn something along the way. Many non-native English speakers on here. I mostly googled if I was unsure what a certain thing meant (Geoduck says hi).
Thanks for the reply. Must’ve been some sort of brainfart here. I was sure the radical was “jellyfish” and then was suprised by the kanji being “shellfish” instead :).
Hello! There was a thread actually that was about learning new words as a non-native English speaker but it appears to have closed in July.
If you want it re-opened you can @ the mods and someone can reopen the thread for you OR you can do what @downtimes said and start another thread like it ![]()
I’ve been using it for a few days, get 100% every time on the 25 Apprentice “radicals” every time I review them… and that’s it. That’s all I can do, every other section, lesson, and anyrhing beyond the 25 basic radicals is off limits. Do I need to pay to advance or something?
No, the first 3 levels are free. Definitely don’t pay yet. You still have 2 weeks to decide if it is for you.
You have to get the radicals to guru, then they unlock the corresponding Kanji. After the Kanjis are at guru, they unlock related vocabulary. To get an item to guru (if you do everything right), I think takes around 5 days.
So the pace is really slow in the beginning, but it picks up a lot after a while.
