Coming back after a little while away. It feels like the enter key behavior when doing reviews has changed, or there is an issue with it now being treated like a ‘click’ on the currently selected icon.
When doing reviews, if I make a mistake and click ‘item info’ to check the correct answer then I want hitting the Enter key to just take me to the next review. It always used to do that, right? I’m not losing my mind?
Right now, hitting Enter after clicking the item info button behaves like repeated clicks of that button. I have to physically click away from the button before Enter will take me to the next item for review. This may sound like a small issue, and I’ve tried to ‘just live with it’ but it is driving me up the wall.
I feel like hitting enter should ALWAYS whip you through to the next stage of reviews (i.e. answering a review or proceeding to the next item for review). I can’t fathom why anyone would want it to serve as a repeated click of the last button you clicked…
Thank you. I was not aware of the shortcuts. I’ll try them out.
Happy to see that many others agree that the new behavior is unintuitive and bad UI though. I still think they should restore the original behavior when using the mouse. I like to use the mouse scroll wheel to navigate the extra information.
Setting up your website around the (0.001% of?) people who navigate the internet using their tab key rather than those using a mouse / trackpad is a wild choice.
I played with this a little. There are still plenty of places on the page that require clicks, not shortcuts (like clicking on a character in ‘Kanji Composition’). Clicking on that means hitting enter just repeatedly opens up that character in a new tab.
This is still a terrible change imo. I added my feedback into the the thread you linked though, so thanks for that, and for the shortcut tip!
Why not make it optional or provide an alternative key binding though? This change is frustrating for current users and makes it less intuitive for the majority of new users.
