Enter button no longer works in lessons?

I haven’t used WaniKani as much as I used to due to a new job, but one GLARING recent issue to me is that hitting Enter no longer works when doing lessons. It works in reviews, just not in lessons. I realize this is a very minor thing, but man it was so much easier for me and I’m confused why this is a feature they took out (unless it’s a bug? I’m using a Chomebook if that has any significance.), since it’s such a nice quality of life thing. Also, not sure if this is a re-post and apologies if it is. Don’t use the forums too often.

I also just returned to WK so I’m not sure if/when that was changed but using the right arrow key works in lessons for me (:

They took it out when they did the massive site overhaul to (the following is paraphrased, i don’t remember the direct quote, nor where it is) “keep it in line with modern web accessibility standards.” It makes sense, and they still have the right arrow key for the same purpose. I guess it’s also for consistency, as the enter key still works in the lesson quiz, just not in the lesson card.

To navigate the lessons after the back-end overhaul, you can use “d” = forward “a” = backward.

I just want to point out that all shortcut keys can be found by clicking the keyboard icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

You can also use the shortcut ? to open the shortcut menu. Once open it looks like this:

The shortcut menu is different in different contexts but the button and the ? should work in reviews, lessons, and lesson quiz.

The enter shortcut was removed as it conflicted with using the tab key to toggle focus between elements and pressing enter to activate the focused element.

Pardon me if I don’t understand but what do you mean “toggle between elements”? I tried using tab in the lessons screen and it just does what tab does on any webpage, which for me personally is not something I ever use (is this something anyone uses? mouses do exist after all). Additionally, how do the two keys interfere with each other? I don’t mean to sound like a grumpy old man, nor to come off rude, but it was such a nice consistency feature having Enter function the same way across both lessons and reviews. I guess it would also be nice to have some customization, i.e. keeping the old shortcuts if you want, or also allowing customization of the homepage since the Extra Study feature is personally not the first thing I want to see.

I could very easily imagine vision impaired people using it to navigate the web, along with screen readers (hell, a lot of sites have a hidden “skip to content” button that only appears through tabbing). Also not to mention that some programmers specifically use text editors without mouse support because keyboard shortcuts are faster

Enter is used to select an active element in tab selection, so if an eventlistener was looking out for it too, it could very well run both at the same time, or fail to run one, creating inconsistency with how it functions.

It still does. You can press enter in the lessons quiz to submit an answer and move to the next question, you just can’t use it to move it through the teaching slides (in which case the arrows keys work).
