New Combined User Statistics!

I feel like this one is on me. I have failed that so often.
さんばい ざんばい さんぱい ざんぱい
crushing defeat, overwhelming failure

I have the same problem

And even worse are words that consists of same kanji, except for one – and it only differs on one radical – like 陽気 and 湯気

Ah, I see. There are just so many ways to get it wrong! I have many of those as well. Like 人数 (じんすう?じんずう?にんすう?にんずう!). It’s not as bad as that one though, that is gonna haunt me for a long time when I get to it

Same! I don’t look at the review for long enough and then muscle memory takes over and types the wrong thing for me. Feels bad :pensive:

Seeing 都合 and 評判 on the list makes me happy to know I’m not the only one cursing these vocabs. I’ll probably be carrying them all the way to the end.

I want to say I probs contributed a lot to 評判 for meaning and 滞る for the reading. I’ve gotten them wrong SOOO many times now.

For the first one 評判, it‘s the same for me, I think I‘ll never get it to burned. Haven‘t reached the other one yet though, I don‘t look forward to it

Was curious if you plan to update this regularly with new stats and forum users and/or if there’s a way to include non-forum-users eventually.

Well, maybe I’ll make an update if the data has changed drastically but because I think the general gist is not changing that much currently so I don’t see the value in it yet. (It just takes soo long to fetch the data :smiling_face_with_tear:)

And I haven’t found a way to get stats of all WaniKani users but maybe someday there will be a way (even though it’s unlikely). But I’ll update this when it happens!

For some reason I thought I was replying to the difficulty indicator script thread, where updates over time would be more relevant (instead of just a curiousity). That said your response makes sense. And it probably won’t change significantly for quite a while. Perhaps it’s only worth doing after a bunch of knew items are added.

How are there people with a free subscription above level 3?
Those are some awesome stats! Thanks for putting them together and sharing them ^^

Hello, I’m free user level 29.

Oh, no. Another birthday…

Thanks! I appreciate it.

To answer your question, “free” here just means they don’t have a subscription (anymore). So people who had a renewing subscription once and it ran out when they had a level greater than 3 means that they still get labeled “free”.

Ah, I see. Thank you!

I do wonder if the issue with 行う really is the meaning proximity with 行く. For me at least, a lot of the trouble I had with that was the vowels in the reading as it gives no clues. I’d be guessing stuff like おかのう、いこなう、etc. until it finally stuck

Ahh, yeah that might be true! It was a while ago when I learned that word so I didn’t quite remember what made it hard for me. If you do your lessons quickly though a problem can also be that you just confuse them with each other; they are both 行 + some kana after all.

For me the issue is that 行く is ultra common and one of the first Japanese words I’ve learned, meanwhile 行う is significantly rarer (although not uncommon) and it’s just difficult to get my brain to accept another kun reading for 行.

I have a similar issue with 食う. I always read it as “たべう” first, then “しょくう” and then go “mmh, no, can’t be it” and then it takes me a couple of seconds to remember the くう reading.

It’s even trickier for me if the form is conjugated, like I always struggle to parse something like “行っちゃった”.

I’m disappointed this wonderful work was rendered useless about one year ago and the root reason isn’t resolved, and might won’t ever be
